View Full Version : Why Doesn't Regent offer a St. John tour in St. Thomas?

Every other cruise line has at least one or more shore excursions to St. John while docked in St. Thomas. I wasn't impressed with what was offered by Regent. We are going to snorkel at Buck Island, even though we have done that previously. Maybe they once offered a St. John excursion as an extra cost tour, which didn't work out. Just guessing...

I can't remember which bay we were taken to to snorkel; it's the only time we've been there. But it was a catamaran trip, across to St. John, with snorkeling and drinks. It was one of the bays on the west end of the north side of the island. We were taken by mini-bus from the pier to the east end of St. Thomas.

It sounds like the "St. John Champagne Catamaran Sail & Snorkel" that's listed currently. This was back in the days when we paid for excursions.

I thought I was totally losing it, if I missed it. But......that catamaran cruise is not offered on our sailing, March 8. We have taken it before and would have chosen it, had it been offered. No St. John for March 8 Navigator!

I don't know if you're interested in do-it-yourself, but if you are, and if you love snorkeling, I can tell you that St John has some of the best in the entire Caribbean, right off shore, just walk into the water and there's the magic. It's an easy ferry ride from St Thomas to St John; an easy, cheap taxi from the dock to Caneel Bay. (Or you can walk on a long, sort of woodsy trail that has nice views.) Visitors are permitted on Caneel grounds, to have lunch at their buffet (expensive), to use the main beach (not the chairs), etc. There's wonderful snorkeling on the sides both off to the left and the right of the main beach. If this is something you think you might be interested in doing, I can tell you about the other specific spots that are terrific to snorkel on the Caneel grounds. (You can actually swim from one to the other; I'm often in the water for hours at a time.)
