Is there any want to find out on-line what cabins are still available in a specific category or do I have to call HAL?

If you go to the HAL website and it says call for price and availability, then that is what you have to do.
Otherwise, just go through the process of online booking and it will provide cabin numbers. You also have the option to ask for a specific cabin.
Calling isn't that inconvenient and they are very nice, and you could have the deck plan in front of you as you talk with HAL.
