I have family members who were on Disney Magic this past week. All 6 of them became very ill with "norwalk" like viruses. The ship quaranteed them in there cabins for two days. I dont know many details about that but I was wondering if anyone else on this cruise got sick? Disney told my family they could not tell them if so. Thanks for any info.

I'm sorry to hear about their bad experience. I was on that same cruise with my entire family (wife, 2 kids, Mom & Dad, Sister, Brother in law, and niece), and none of us seemed to come down with anything. A couple of us were battling respiratory stuff prior to the trip, but it got better once we hit the warm sea air. If there was anything going around, the word didn't get out to us. Any idea of their schedule? Dining rotation, excursions, cabin location, and when in the week did they catch it? Just curious.

I think they had the later seating dinner and they caught it about the 2-3rd day of the trip.

We all had early dinner, and I didn't notice any dropoff in attendance there. I'm very sorry they had to endure something like that, especially if they were among those of us that had to evacuate the terminal before boarding due to some bomb scare or something. Standing in a hot parking lot for 2 hours with 100's of hot, cranky kids (and adults) is not a good way to start the trip. An illness 2 days later would have made it all seem better to just stay home.

Here's a link to information on Norovirus, the new name for the Norwalk-Like Virus. (fewer syllables, I like it.)
http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/pub/Norovirus/Norovirus.htm

It must have been a minor outbreak i.e. less that 2% of passengers or crew. The CDC VSP hasn't posted it to their web site.
If you want a bit of a shocker, check out this web page:

It's amazing how common this ilness is though only cruise lines are required to report it. It's also common in nursing homes, schools, offices and any place where people gather. Remember this the next time that someone says that they have the "stomach flu"

That was scary. It is amazing how many people really do get sick!
Yes, they were also caught up in the bomb scare as well. Doesn't sound like it was the best vacation ever!

We were also on that cruise, and thankfully didn't get sick. We were early dinner, and were ion deck 5.

Fortunately, we arrived at the terminal very early. We didn't even know about the bomb threat until they started announcing that lunch would be extended, and that the drill and sailing were delayed.

Sorry your family got sick. Did they book another cruise?

I think they are booked on a Royal Carribean cruise in a few months. I am sure that while they had a bad time they will cruise Disney again. They have always loved it so I am sure that they will continue.
