Traveling in October on the Statendam with a small group of 16 friends. We would like to have a scavenger hunt while onboard! Has anybody ever done one? Need some ideas on what we can do ourselves. Thank you very much.:)

We've done them as part of organized cruise activities on longer cruises - they can be alot of fun - be aware not to have too many of the items found in cabins. One man got really testy that there were people standing outside his cabin in the hallway talking while he was trying to nap.

My favorite item: A set of "teeth" (people needed to find a comb!)

When we were on our Alaska cruise in 2002 there was a HAL adult scavenger hunt, I believe it was called Sea Quest.

It took place in the lounge where they held Bingo and divided the room in half and had pitted each side against the other with being first to provide items.

It started out pretty innocent, (key ring, lip stick, casino chip, etc) but ended on the racey side.

A warm bra was needed (warm so no one brought one in a bag) and ended with as many men's pants as possible being thrown up on the stage. This was pretty funny as all the men were pulling down shirts to cover thier boxers or briefs. In the end the men had to go up and recover their pants or shorts.

Pretty funny, but didn't seem very HAL like and I've never seen it again.

How about a photo scavenger hunt? We've done those with polaroids, but with all the camera phones out there you could probably do it justice. Things like; a picture of a cow, a picture of three sisters.. could be family or three nuns.. etc...:p

One of the daily activities on one of our cruises (I don't remember which one) was run by the cruise staff. Those participating got a list of 12 items to find on the ship within something like 20 minutes. You could very easily make up your own list for your own group and make your own rules as to time etc. At the beginning of the cruise one person should go round the ship and observe things - artwork, furniture etc. to make up the list. The list included such things as an unused postage stamp, staff/crew member name tag, a HAL flag cocktail stick, a tea bag, the daily program from three days ago, a copy of the Daily Quiz (not the current day), an autograph of an entertainer, a map of a port of call, the name of shop supervisor, the location of a piece of artwork (in our case it was, I think, The Laughing Girl" who was in the rear staircase going up from the Lido to the Club Hal space - not a staircase that most people used!) - just check around the ship. You could list more than one piece of art. Obviously participants don't bring back the actual item, just the location. The list could go on - just observe the ship. I hope this helps. Have fun!

BTW I have seen Sea Quest on just about all HAL cruises. It is run by the cruise staff close to the end of a cruise. It was as described by Foxy Terrier.

I participated in a scavenger hunt on the Amsterdam, in Jan. It was a part of the men's and women's Pentathlon event. I'm out of town, now, but saved the sheet we used and would be happy to share it with you, when we get home.

Pat, I would appreciate reading about that.

To all others who have responded-thank you. I especially like the idea of looking over the ship and finding things they have to look for. With four sea days over and back it should be fun and they have plenty of time.
