I searched the forum, but couldn't find the answer to the following: This is my first cruise in a non-suite room. I know there are bathrobes, but are there slippers in verandah rooms or not?

There were no slippers in my veranda cabin on the Prinsendam.

No, slippers only in full suites. And I haven't always seen them there.

All cains have robes for use on the ship but only the Deluxe Veranda and Penthouse Suites have slippers.

We had slippers in our SY cabin last year on the Noordam.
Is it related to Mariner status? Was it because it was a longer cruise (35 days)?

It is not Mariner Status.
It might have been because it was a long cruise.
Or it might have even been a nice treat your steward did for you. :)

You are right, it could have been the stewards as I told them not to bother with toweling animals at all during the cruise. Maybe we got the slippers instead :)
I think the toweling animals are nice for children and people on their first cruise but I do not want the stewards spending what little time they have making them for me.

Since we always stay in either a PS or an SA -- we have not always gotten the slippers.
Have no idea why it is hit and miss.

I agree about the towel animals.
I 'feel out' our stewards when we first meet them and if I think I will not be insulting him/her, I usually request they don't use their precious time making us towel animals. They always leave them anyway. I rather think that is their instructions and they would be spoken to if supervisor saw they by-passed a cabin and did not leave them.
I ALWAYS tell them under no circumstances to leave a hanging monkey. That one freaked me out the first time I entered our VERY dimly lit cabin and I didn't know what was hanging from our ceiling. I never got over that!!! I mean it really frightened me the way it was hanging and seemed to be moving.

I heard a story a while back. Not sure if it was on HAL or RCI. The stewards put a towel 'man' sitting in a chair instead of an animal and when the passenger returned to the cabin they just screamed. I don't think the stewards will be doing that again.
On our last cruise (RCI) the cabin stewards were really overworked. Their hours were ridiculous. I told them not to bother with evening turn down for us but they said, if their supervisor saw they were not doing turn down, they could get the sack.
On a few evenings we went to dinner and put the 'do not disturb' notice on the door. At the end of the cruise they thanked us for our kindness and concern and seemed very grateful for those extra few minutes.
I know I am probably in the minority but I do not need the stewards to clean the cabin a second time, close the curtains and turn down the bed.

Certainly agree with you "Sail" re the Hanging Monkey ! When I first saw it - I thought
it was clever. But after several nights awakening and being frightened by it -
I wanted it gone. But I didn't want to insult the room steward.
Future cruises - I discovered from these boards -- I just wrote a note to the Housekeeping
Manager - that I often slept late (due to my disability) - and didn't need my cabin
cleaned every morning - if I were sleeping late! I didn't want the cabin steward
to be noted for lack of service !

We found an array of towel animals in one of the drawers under the bed, they might not create them every day. ;)

We walked into a dark cabin with the nightstand spotlight aimed at the monkey. :)

Can you request slippers? We are in an ocean-view cabin category.

Nothing to lose by asking but so far as I know, only Deluxe Veranda Suite and Penthouse Suite guests get them.
Part of all the extra fare they pay.

Last year we were in a AC cabin and got great robes, lined and big. We usually get therry robes in balcony cabins and we like ththe ones from the suite wwe bought 2. Have they changed the robes to the lined style or do we just get the terry ones. I'm big so when they give me the XXL it weighs a ton. I guess I could pack ny robe from last cruise.

This happened to us on one of our cruises---can't remember what line it was. Scared the bejeesus out of me. But, it was pretty funny, once I got over the initial fright. They used DH trousers, jacket, hat, shoes and sunglasses. LOL Of course, the steward giggled to himself every time we passed him in the hallway---as I shook my finger at him!! Heh!

I would not have appreciated a steward going into DH's closet and removing clothes to put on a towel critter. I would not have found that 'cool'.

Good thing that you (and the stewards) have a good sense of humour!! :)
