View Full Version : Verandah Loungers vs. Chairs w/ Ottomans

On my cruise next month we'll be in a Deluxe Suite (SA) for the first time. In some pictures of the DS verandahs that I've seen there are actual lounge chairs and in other pictures there are the chairs with ottomans. Is there a standard or is it really hit or miss? Might it depend on the ship? I guess either would work - there were chairs w/ottomans on the SS verandah we had on our last cruise - but I'd really prefer the full out loungers. Could we request loungers if there are only chairs w/ottomans?
Thanks!

We've had both in "SA" but the vast majority of the time we have the chair with ottoman which we find comfortable. :)

Yes, I found the chair w/ ottoman comfortable, too. We're usually not "high maintenance," so I doubt I'd bother asking for loungers if they weren't there. I was just curious what we could expect. Thank you, S7S - you are so knowledgable and always so helpful in your replies!

It's been our experience that the Vista Deluxe Veranda Suites have chairs & footstools while the R & S class ships have the loungers and a slightly larger table.

Aha - that makes sense. It's nice to be prepared. Maybe just as well, because I figured if they had loungers, my DH might never leave the verandah at all! He loves to stretch out and nap! Thanks!

Thanks, Homala for the nice words. I appreciate it. :)
The verandas on "S" and "R" ships are larger than all the "SA" verandas on Vista and Signature ships.

On Vista ships, the Deluxe Suites on the sides have chairs & ottomans. The ones on the wake may have loungers because of the larger verandas.

Personal experience only, so not sure if it was an anomaly or not, but on the Zuiderdam our good friends in an SA right across from Neptune Lounge had 4 chairs and a lounger, 2 ottomans, one large and one small table. On the Westerdam in our SA we had the same. On the Nieuw Amsterdam we had friends in an SA near the Neptune Lounge and they did not have a Lounger, but the people in the stateroom next to them, also an SA, did have a lounger.
I think it might be a hit and miss thing, but not sure.

A few times we had loungers on our "SA" veranda when we arrived at the ship. Previous guests must have requested them and they never got moved back.

I have discovered that on the larger ships - it is usually the chair and ottoman - however our next door neighbours in SA had loungers. Chatting to them, I found out that they simply asked and got. We didn't bother as we were fine with what we had - but if a lounger is important, I would ask right away if you don't have one.;)

Huh - sounds like it is possible to have them then. OK. Maybe I'll give it a shot. After all, it is DH's vacation, too, and if he wants to nap out there in the afternoons, well, I'm sure that I can find my way to the spa! Thanks everyone!

Keep in mind that the loungers take up more space on the smaller verandahs on the Vista and Signature Class ships.
Harder to move around even with the chairs and ottomans removed.
Personally I prefer the chairs and ottomans due to a back condition it is hard for me to use the loungers.

Good point KK and S7S - seems like it'd be too crowded out there with loungers. I think we'll be fine with whatever they've got. I just like to fantasize and picture us out on our balcony these next couple weeks before our cruise and I wanted to know if I should picture us on loungers or chairs. (Yes, I am totally obsessed. I'm going to have to be extra productive at work when I get back!)

I had an SC cabin on deck 4 of Zuiderdam in April. We had 2 loungers, 2 chairs w/ ottomans, and a round table with 4 chairs. All of that furniture was already there when we boarded.
