I live locally and had won a cruise for 2 for $150 through a silent auction at church that benefited a ministry we have to the seafareres at the port. I think normally the cruise was valued at like $350.00. We each had to pay a port charge of $56 and some odd change.

Live 10 minutes from the port and a friend from MI here on business went with me. Parking is valet only for $15 per day. Embarkation was easy, the terminal is very nice and well staffed and it made me a little sad such a nice terminal didn't have more cruiselines to support it because it could do a lot for our local economy. We arrived at the ship about 12:15 and were settled into our cabin (Deck 3, lowest deck) that had a double bed and an upper birth. You can tell by the ship design it's definately an older ship but it's very well maintained and clean.

Lunch was on the upper deck..typical "cruise food trough"..but it was ok. Were supposed to sail at 4:30 but never sailed until almost 6. Dinner first night was at the Rio restaruant, nice selection and there are servers that bring Brazilian style rodezio meats to carve at your table. Nice touch, except for the server in the squeaky sing song voice that kept yelling "Roast bEEEEEEEEEfffff!". Nice casino, won $35. Entertainment was nice, good comedian, a cirque de soleil act (kinda weird, one of them was a giant slinky) and a couple of singers. There was a nice British style pub/club. The main audtiorium style room which also served as an after hours disco was very chic, I was impressed with that.

On the second night we ate at the Crystal restaruant which is supposed to be more formal..most people adhered to the dress code but a few people who obviiously didn't care came in shorts and tshirts and werent turned away which the brochure indicated they would.

We spent the day at Our Lucaya resort on the beach, very nice..we didnt buy the lunch option but spent time in the market place which was typical of most ports, and had lunch there.

I really enjoyed the Italian cafe that was open until the wee hours..you could get a giant cappucinno and a beautiful piece of cake for $4 and they actualy had a "happy hour". Other times you could get delicious homemade pizza for a snack (no charge). The gift shop items were reasonably priced and so was the liquor sales.

Ok..only one negative thing and that wouldnt disuade me from sailing with this line again..when I pulled the blanket back the first night on the upper birth the bed was made, but there was a giagnatic black hair on the pillow..not mine nor my friend as we are blondes..they did change the sheets..and the blanket and comforter..the cabin steward, whom I think was a new employee, was clearly moritifed..all the next day he apologized profusely and that night on my bed was a plate of chocolate covered strawberries with a note from the supervisor.

I think this is a great deal, esp.if you live locally and want a quick get away. The stay rates for a couple of days at our Lucaya our reasonable. I noticed a lot of Bahamians sort of use this as a shuttle to go home and visit if they live in FL..the ship IS old, although clean and neat and well maintained. If you are a big person, I dontk now how comfortable you will be as the cabins are small, the upper berths have a sign staying "maximum weight allowed 180 lbs) and the bathrooms are small too.We had a small window (outside cabin). We got off the ship at 7:30 on Monday morning and I was actually at work by 8!! If you are a giant luxury liner person, its not for you. But it seemed to have a local following as there were many there you could tell were repeat customers.

Nice review. I am also a local and believe this is a nice shot in the arm for our Palm Beach County economy. It also helps us locals have a quick get away without having to deal with Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. Its a shame we can't have another ship approximately the same size that would cruise a couple of more days at a different port, perhaps down to Key West. But as I previously stated the ship needs new BEDS and have their TV stations come out of West Palm Beach not Miami.

Agreed..for a low budge vacation/get away it's great. I was pleasantly surprsed at how well maintained this old ship was. I think the city of Riviera Beach is trying to really promote this port which I think they rebuilt only a few years ago...the sad thing is Riviera Beach itself is a dump though they are trying hard to turn it around...the Palm Beach Princess went belly up and that was quite a popular ship for a night of gambling.

I think my biggest suprise was the prices in the gift shop and for some of the treats in the Italian cafe..drink prices for a cruise were pretty reasonable.

I plan to go again..my friend from MI who went with me already is planning another one on on the ship. Its a great way to have a quick trip to the Bahamas and add a few days and I hope the line does well.

We live on Singer Island and booked the Dec. 15 trip. We have cruised many times and look forward to this quick get-away with no driving. Your reviews have been very helpful.

Great..in your backyard literally! I am wondering if this is the cruise line everyone else is posting about that they got "scammed" on..or if it was Discovery out of Fort Lauderdale. Either way, I don't find this to be a scam at all.

Thanks for stopping in at my review. Your review (minus the hair part, LOL) was really one of the ones that helped me feel better about the fact that I had booked this cruise without doing ONE review. Wish I had paid more attention to the line about the formal night though, LOL :) I hate being under-dressed.

The hair part didn't bother me so much..the most annoying thing to me was the waiter who kept parading around the dining room with the spear of roast beef singing..."Roast BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeFFFFF!"

We live about 45 minutes north of Riviera Beach and have sailed 7 times on the Bahamas Celebration. lad you enjoyed it. We feel like we are coming home when we board. We sailed with friends last on 12/3/11 and this time had dinner in the (specialty - addional $25pp.) Cove Restaurant. It was an exceptional meal, served elegantly and leisurely by Marius. The extra fee was well worth it for the ambiance and the quality of the food. We will be doing that again. As usual, boarding was easy, our rooms (8424 and 8422, cat 4 oceanview) were as expected: enough room for two, decent bathroom space, and very clean. Meals were the same quality we have come to enjoy, and all the staff and entertainment as usual was great! My husband won the karaoke contest, got a $25 room credit for winning the first evening, and won the second night - a free cruise. We will be back in July for him to compete for the $10,000 prize. We'd have booked another cruise anyway. It is a great getaway.
And to the people who write all the bad reviews regarding gratuities: if you have been on any other cruises you would know that in addition to the gratuities that are charged for cabin stewards and dining room staff, every ship adds a 15% gratuity to all bar purchases. You can always expect the extra taxes to be added. You need to know what you are talking about before you badmouth.

I think the people who feel scammed booked through a timeshare company that the cruise line was using to publicize the ship. They were required to go to Ft. Lauderdale to "pick up their boarding passes". Instead they were subjected to timeshare presentations and found that there was no need to pick up anything in order to board the ship. Some people from overseas booked this way and were disappointed in the results. It is understandable. If you book directly with the cruise line, you will have none of these issues.

Yes, that's what I've found. But also, the majority of the people saying they got scammed did more than the cruise - a lot of people talk about the 3 days in FTL, the rental car to Orlando, etc.
I live local, and have done this cruise twice. Once I booked directly, and another time my mom called in from a commercial - $59/each for the taxes & fees. Yes, we had to go to FTL to get our boarding passes, but truly, for $59/each it was worth the drive. Luckily we didn't get pressured into a timeshare presentation because it was my mom and I - both married - without our spouses, so they couldn't push us. And truly, I'd do it again that way!
