We are looking at cruises on the Oosterdam that is sailing in Australian waters next year, and wondering what it is like.
I do know that you can get a 4 berth verandah cabin, which you can't on the Volendam.

Two entirely different ships from two different generations, and different sizes.

The Oosterdam is much larger than the Volendam. I prefer the Volendam

I understand it is a entirely different ship, but wondering which is ship is the best.

Have sailed on both.
If you are concerned about getting 4 people in a cabin -- then the Oosterdam is the way to go.

Are the bigger cabins? We all had a outside cabin on the Volendam, but we couldn't only get a veranda cabin, as they wouldn't accommodate 4. We weren't paying for a deluxe veranda cabin. The thing I didn't like about the Volendam was how the bunk bed came down over the queen bed. Very poor design, it should have been above the sofa.
I am more interested to hear about the Oosterdam itself.

"Best" is a totally subjective opinion. What is "best" to you may be terrible to me.
It has generally been said that when the Vista class was created (with Oosterdam), the cabins were slightly smaller, particularly in the suite levels. But they might be better designed, to, among other things, handle 4 people. Not a lot of cabins are quads.
