Mazatlan in 2012

It looks like Oosterdam is going to resume its stop Mazatlan starting in January, 2012, on the 7-day Mexican Riviera itinerary.

Did this change just happen? I noticed it in our Mariners magazine that came today, and I confirmed it on HAL's web site.

That is good news. The newly and lovingly restored Centro Historico of Mazatlan is very lovely and many enjoy the small ferry trip to Stone Island. Both quite close to where the ship docks- walkable. Some great little restaurants, markets and shopping in this low-key and colorful area with peaceful plazas and fountains. No reason to go all the way out to more heavily developed and touristed Zona Dorado where it seems many of the prior incidents took place.

I was told that the Mexican ports would be re-evaluated over the summer, and that they would be reinstated if there were no more major security concerns. As of this posting, HAL will be returning to Mazatlan.
