Just found out our pre cruise hotel now charges for shuttle to the port, plus need fast service to airport for an early flight when we return. I did a search for car or taxi recommendations, but everything I got was 2005 vintage. Any good experiences and recommendations? Thanks

How far from the airport is your hotel?

That makes a big difference.

Look over on the Florida Departures board, here:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=495

Where this topic is discussed daily.

Taxi is almost always the recommendation, unless, like S&S says, your hotel is a ways away.

What time is your flight? Taxi is really the best for port ot airport transfer.

We got to airport from the Westerdam last November by 8:30 AM by taking a taxi waiting at the port.

Taxi to the airport is the simplest method.

One week ago we took a taxi from the port to airport - cost $10.50 plus tip. Travel time about 10 minutes. We left our cabin at 7:15am and were at the airport gate at 8:00 am!

Most of the hotels in FLL that do not have free shuttles (that is most of them) to the cruise port use a private shuttle that costs around $15 pp round trip and will return you after the cruise to either the hotel or the FLL airport. 3 years ago we used this service and we were at the airport by 9:00 am after getting off the ship at 8:30. Or you can use the shuttle one way and take a taxi to the airport. The FLL airport is so close to the cruise port that you can see the runways from the cruise ships.

Thanks everyone. Will just call a cab to get from hotel to port. Any company better than others? Will catch whatever cab is in line when heading back to the airport.

Once, years and years ago....like 1995, we used a car service. It was OK and worked well but once we saw how relatively easy and inexpensive it was to get from our hotel to the cruise terminal and then to the airport at the end of the cruise we've gone strictly with taxis. Not that I've gone out of my way to do it but I've actually noticed there aren't a lot of folks coming or going to cruises in car service limos, at least not the obvious white or black sedans, limos, and SUV's.

Our FLL hotel now charges for their shuttle to the pier. Only $6/pp, but found out Yellow Cab is $4 for up to 4 people. Will be calling a cab at the hotel instead of fighting the hotel crowd and boarding the shuttle not to mention saving a few dollars.

I do not have their number handy, but do a search for Yellow Cab in FLL.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn on Stirling and shuttle to the Port was free.

We did the expedited disembarkation, were off the ship by 7:30 and there was a line of taxis waiting. Cost was +/- $15 plus tip to airport. There was another taxi along side of us at a stop light on the way and its meter was reading the same as the meter in the cab we were in.

The information that a later poster mentioned that seemed to indicate you could take a taxi to the pier for $4 for up to 4 people ($1 pp?) may not be correct, unless I am misunderstanding. I think it costs like $2.50 or $3.00 just to sit in the cab. Unless the hotel is just outside the pier, it will cost more than $1 to get there.

I have to believe that is $4pp for up to 4 people which seems more realistic. However unless the cab is a van there is no way you will get luggage for 4 people in one cab.

I called Yellow Cab this morning to get a 2nd quote from the Hyatt Airport location. Looks like I got bad information! It is $16/4 people. I should have known the first quote seemed too good to be true!

Just retd from our cruise and wanted to clarify/confirm the taxi fare from the Hyatt Airport North to the cruise terminal. The fare was in fact $4 IF there had been minimal to no traffic. I watched the meter and the fare came to approx $4 from hotel to when we reached the terminal. However, due to the number of ships in port there was an extreme delay getting to the drop off point. Fare racked up to $12.

The fare will be approx $4 IF the terminal is not busy and more depending upon the amount of traffic.

Hope this helps.....
