We are sailing on the Westerdam March 4,2012. Does HAL have soda cards and if so how much do they cost? We don't drink alcohol so don't care about the cost of it. Also we like to have some soda available in our stateroom so what is HAL's policy on bringing beverages on board? I know the answers to my questions are somewhere on the boards but I don't have the time or patience to keep reading. Thanks in advance, Beth

Yes, they do have soda cards that can also be used in explorations coffee area. You may bring on soda to keep in your room.

HAL permits guests to bring soda, water and wine aboard.

$50.00 Beverage Card (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/gift/gift/giftMoreDetails.action?giftCatalogItemId=195)cost $45.00

$50.00 Non-Alcoholic Beverage Card (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/gift/gift/giftMoreDetails.action?giftCatalogItemId=193)cost $45.00

$100.00 Beverage Card (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/gift/gift/giftMoreDetails.action?giftCatalogItemId=196)cost $90.00

$50.00 Soda Card (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/gift/gift/giftMoreDetails.action?giftCatalogItemId=547)cost $25.00

The soda card costs $25 but has a face value of $50. Each time you buy a soda with it $2.24 ($1.95 + 15%) is deducted from the value. $50/$2.24 = 22 cans, with $0.72 left over. You can use that $0.72 with $1.52 on your room key card (or another soda card) to get another can.

You can bring as much bottled water, soda, wine and champagne lon board as you wish -- there is no limit.

If you bring your own wine / champagne on board -- and decide to take it to the dining room and / or bar/lounge -- there is a corkage fee of $18 per bottle.

The soda card is for soda only. It costs $25, and with it you car purchase $50 worth of soda, in cans. The card has no financial benefit until you spend the full $25 on soda, then the next $25 is free.
If you want to use the card to purchase the cans to take to your cabin, that's fine. Just ask the bartender not to open them.
Yes, as others have stated, you can bring soda aboard.

The card that one poster mentioned can be used in Explorations Cafe is a different, non-alcohol beverage card. That one costs $45 for $50 worth of beverages, (or choose $90 for $100). You can use that one for soda, too, but the benefit isn't as great.

I have been told on previous HAL cruises that if you bring liquor or wine onboard they will "hold" the spirits for you until your cruise is over. I have heard other cruise passengers tell of being notified that their luggage has been confiscated until the liquor is removed and placed in HAL's safekeeping until the cruise is over. When we went to Mexico we even had to open our HAL insulated water carrier to show them that we had not replaced the water with tequila.

Hard liquor - no. And they'll only hold it if it's in the original unopened container. Otherwise it's destroyed.

I'm interested in specialty coffees. Approximately how many specialty coffees will a $50 beveridge card get you? It would be the non-alcoholic beveridge card I would want to purchase?

Is there a price list for explorations Cafe someone can point me to?

Thanks!:)

Thanks!:)HERE IS (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=31186367&postcount=8) a price list from Dec 09. Add a 15% service charge to each of those prices. I see no point of purchasing the non-alcoholic card, since the price is the same as the general card with which you can get both alcoholic and non-al drinks.
