Booking a suite on the Oosterdam - Mexico, fall 2005. Wld u recommend one portside, starboard or even aft - visiting P. Vallarta, Mazatlan & Cabo or do u have a favorite one and why? Am a bit concerned re: viewing from above in aft suites. Spend time reading so want a comfortable couch & find sofa beds tend to be 'harder'.. Mother is elderly & uses a cane so need to be reasonably close to an elevator. Would very much appreciate hearing from those who have travelled on 'her' in a suite..Also, wld like your opinion of the ship in general? Thanks so much in advance. Happy cruisin' all!

I would bbok a starboard cabin mid-ship. On this cruise you see a bit more shoreline on starboard (but not a big difference IMO). Also, being mid-ship you will be near Neptune Lounge - great to pop in and out of when you want.
Do not book next to the glass elevator though.
We are in 7055 on next cruise and this seems perfect for you.

I'd go for 5187 or 5186 they are both aft suite with HUGE wrap around balconies! They are incredible. OK, you walk a bit more, but the view and space are amazing!

Really appreciate your effort in replying. Questions though - re: aft suites - is the balcony private since the deck above angles away & side ones have a piece of balcony that might be viewed from the side?? Guess u are likely not hanging off the rail anyway right where u might be viewed from above. Am considering portside cabin #7072 - (can watch the 'tendering' back & forth & in Cabo u can see the Arch..) but concerned re: noise 'cause of close proximity to the glass elevators? OR the aft cabin #7132 (longer walk to elevators but bigger balcony) - which wld u choose?? My son has chosen #7096 for himself - is this a good choice - seems OK 'cause no traffic behind the elevators & close to same but is it noisy? Thanks again & happy cruisin' as if it is anything else hmmm??

Yes, people I've talked to in the Aft cabins say privacy IS an issue. Only on the very back, tho.
Beward the Superior Suites. They are not real suites. I'm leaving tomorrow and got myself in one of those and didn't realize you don't get any of the benefits of a suite until after I'd booked two of them.
I did noticed aboard that some of the balconies not only have NO privacy because of the glass elevators –– but these shafts also cut into their space! Definitely something to avoid!!!

Appreciate the quick response to my questions...OK re: aft located suites & yes - I noticed the SS cat. aren't 'real' suites. Not sure if cabin #7072 wld be affected by the elevator shafts but don't think so - too far away. My only concern is noise - any thoughts?? Keep sailin' & smilin'..!

We were in aft suite 7133 on the Westerdam. The back of the balcony is not private, but the side is. If you want privacy in an aft suite, get an S suite on Deck 8. These are under the overhang of the aft pool deck. The balcony is completely covered. That said, however, guests in the suites below you can look up and see you. I don't think I would want to sit out naked on any of the aft suites. For the most part, we felt that we had privacy on the verandah. Most of the time there were no other people out on their decks when we were out there.
The aft decks are HUGE. We had seating for 9 people and we attended a party on an aft deck and there were 50 people out on the deck and it wasn't crowded.
We liked it so much we have booked 5187 for our next cruise.

Your mother will have a hard time with a wake cabin. I had foot trouble on our last Zuidy and that walk from the aft elevator was painful!
That said, the corner wake suites are my favorite. If you can get one on deck 8, it is totally covered, rear and side. The tradeoff is there is privacy but little full sun, and the interior is slightly smaller.

Do you like morning or evening sunshine? Four days South and two days North. Avoid cabin next to outside elevators. Something close would be fine and still close to Nuptune lounge. Have fun. Wendy

Really appreciate the time u took to help me out with my questions - I think I am now content with what we have chosen - closer to elevator & Neptune Lounge & prefer morning to eve. sun so since on port side will get mostly that. Again 'kudos' to u all & my wish for many happy cruises..!
