View Full Version : I just don't get cruising with Stuffed Animals

I just recently read the start of a review and the couple was shown with a mascot of sorts... stuffed animal in the pictures.
and... saw another review with an Angry Bird all over the ship.
then I saw one with a pirate stuffed doll of some sort.
Can I just say..... I don't get it! :) Some of it is cute, while most is a bit ridiculous.
It reminds me of "Flat Stanley" that I made my kids take to the ball park one year.
Can't we just leave the toys at home? :p

My DH thought I was nuts for buying DGS a build-a-bear lion. It was just us 2 on the cruise so I had to hand carry the little cute box with the lion head sticking out.
Yeah it was cute carrying it through CBP and then TSA.
I just could not be focused on worrying about the thing on excursions and such.

I think it's sort of like the Travelling Gnome thing. You take a mascot of some sort and take a picture of whatever places you go to. It's just a fun way to remember your vacation. And you could possibly think of the stuffed animal or what have you as standing in your place since it's awfully hard to take a photo of yourself visiting such and such location.
Is it silly? Sure, but it's no fun being serious all the time. :) Just my two cents.

It's called having fun... some of us do it in different ways. I have a stuffed Mickey Mouse that travels with us (like the travelling Gnome thing). Why question someone having fun? I guess I like having fun in my own way, and I won't apologize for it.

I wouldn't do it, carrying the thing around the ports would be way more trouble than it's worth.
I could see maybe doing it once, especially if you are with a party group. I really don't get doing it on every cruise.

Sorry, I just had to...........
Different Strokes, I would have to guess, but, for some people it makes being on a vacation more fun. Somestimes a stuffed animal can strike a pose that you never could:D

On our last cruise we traveled with a plastic penquin and a plastic california raisin. They were only a few inches tall and both fit on a stick. We took pictures with them all over the ship. Did they have a purpose? Yes, the penquin was for my father since we couldn't talk him into going on the cruise with us and the california raisin was for my m-i-l because she collects them and loves goofy pictures. It was fun and didn't hurt anyone. But no, I don't think I'll be doing it again. Almost lost one of the little buggers overboard one timel.

I packed a couple black kitties for our Halloween cruise and took pictures of them sitting next to our towel animals each evening. I think the steward had fun with them, too, because a couple of times they would have them positioned next to the towel animals. Besides, I missed my kitty we had to leave at home. :( They made us smile.

Yeah, no reason you should have to, either. I mean, unless you're asking people to carry it for you, what's it to anyone else?
Oh, wait a minute--you don't give Mickey his own pool chair, do you?????

It's really not our business to worry about what some take on vacation with them. If they like it, great. If you don't, stop living vicariously through their photos and get your own life. What are we 4th graders?

Because the average person who believes that is a hypocrite.
Lets say you see some youth walking down the ships hall with "Baggy" pants on (those that hang down below thier arse so you can see their skivvies) with one off their hands holding them up so they don't hit the floor.
Does everyone think that is OK?
I will be the first to admit .....pull your darn pants up,it looks rediculous to me.
But really,.....stuffed animals are inscribed with meaning by their owners and in their act of acquisition. They are, a fetish of our own making, and a fixation that provides no easy solutions. (Transculture, thanks to Walter Putnam)

Unfortunately, there are far too many people in this world that take themselves way too seriously and don't have much of an imagination or a good sense of humor. They're what some would call "sour pusses". My thoughts are, you're on vacation, why not have fun and create some happy memories. You might even make some new friends along the way (bonus!):)

I agree. OP may not understand why some people feel the need to travel with a stuffed animal and document their travels that way. I don't understand why some people feel the need to belittle and complain about the harmless actions of others. I would bet that the reviews of those traveling with stuffed cabin mates are a whole lot more fun to read than the reviews written by people who complain about such things.
And I travel with Penguino, a stuffed penguin that DS won for me at Universal Studios many years ago. He guards the room most of the time, but he occasionally gets out in my beach bag. He had a good time on Bourbon Street last year and went catamaran sailing in Maui.

A little pink teddy bear goes on my cruises.
He, mostly, stays in my room.
I have returned and found him tucked into bed, or wearing my sunglasses, or hanging out with a towel animal.
Many years ago, on teacher appreciation day, he was presented to me by a little girl who will never get to go on a cruise.

I agree. I took a little dog dressed for Halloween and only took it to the M & M. The rest of the time, it stayed in my cabin, either next to Joe's picture or nestled among the towel animals. I haven't decided if I am going to take one on our March cruise yet. I might if something catches my eye like the little dog did one day when I was in CVS.

We all see or hear things that we may not personally "GET" . Hell I don't "GET" how people enjoy going to a freezeing cold mountain and ski down it *LOL :). But more power to the people who do and have fun doing it.
Outside of doing a double take , shaking my head and having a good chickle. I don't let stuff like that bother me too much.
Is the kid with his pants falling down any worse than the middle aged guy with the BAAAAAAAAD Toupee , Or the middle aged woman who still dresses like a Spice Girl.

On a whim while vacationing in the mountains a few years ago I bought a little voodoo doll made entirely of string. He was fashioned to look like a pirate, with a little eye patch and a little sword made of wire. He is supposed to be a good luck charm to ensure safe journeys.
I was thinking a while back that he is going to come with us on the Spirit to Hawaii in January. Watch for upcoming photos of the Adventures of Pirate Guy. (Ok I'm not creative with the name thing but I did better with our kids I promise LOL)

We're not pool chair hogs, and consider ourselves lucky if at least once during the cruise we actually find a couple of chairs to stretch out in and get some sun. I'm wondering if a lifesize realistic looking rubber python placed on our chairs would keep someone from stealing them while we're in the pool or getting a snack. Probably not, but it might get some interesting reactions!:D

I don't get it either, but sometime they have a story behind it. For example, my mother in law was flying and hit a flock of geese and had to return to the airport. The flight was rescheduled for next morning so she had to return home. Well, my sister in law got really scared and gave her picture of a cute dog for her protection.
My mother in law got on the flight the next morning along with picture of a cute dog. Ended up taking picture with it during her entire vacation. It was pretty funny and actually made sense.

I wasn't complaining just making a comment. I really don't think anyone was complaining or saying not to do it, some just don't "get it". There are threads are this board about a whole lot of crazy things.
Just because I think it's strange doesn't mean I would go up to the person and tell them to stop doing it. Big difference in saying you don't get it and saying don't do it. I really doubt that anybody worries about it either.

:) the Angry Birds review is in my signature next to the Liberty cruise...
Thank you to everyone who said they liked it! You have restored my faith in mankind! It was a ton of fun to do, and the bird was not a problem taking anywhere with us. I'm not a professional photographer at all, but I like to take pictures so posing the bird was good fun!!! Plus the bird is more photogenic then I am....
In any case.. we will be on the Liberty (Western) again next month and the Angry Bird will be staging his attacks on the evil Red Frogs and Blue Iguanas... I suggest those that do not get it avoid that thread! :)

While I do enjoy the towel animals the room stewards create, I personally wouldn't take a stuffed animal anywhere. My 11 year old granddaughter has a collection of Build-a-Bears and did take one to Hawaii, but even she left it in the room, she didn't carry it around with her.
I have to agree with the OP, I don't see why ADULTS would even want to take stuffed animals/toys anywhere.

I "get it" as for various reasons I brought a bunny on a few cruises.
He first showed up because it was the first vacation I took by myself after my divorce and without my kids. Bunny has two hearts inside him, one for each son. After that, Bunny became the target of numerous plots by my cruise buddies. I even left him behind at Paradise Beach with Tom so he could greet the group when they arrived a few weeks later. Especially on those solo cruises, it was nice to have something to take a picture of, other than scenery and shots of strangers on the ship.

We do it to have fun.. and since this thread opened up the door. I just can't understand why people worry about what other people do!

I like this one too, I wonder if they make "angry birds" that you can make talk, record a message on and then when someone squeezes it it says, "Get the heck away from my chair!"
Wait where is my patten or copy right forms?

I think it's sort of like the Travelling Gnome thing. You take a mascot of some sort and take a picture of whatever places you go to. It's just a fun way to remember your vacation. And you could possibly think of the stuffed animal or what have you as standing in your place since it's awfully hard to take a photo of yourself visiting such and such location.
Is it silly? Sure, but it's no fun being serious all the time. :) Just my two cents.
I have a small traveling gnome that I am going to bring on our next cruise and take pictures of the gnome having a great time. It's just funny.

I've seen a lot of threads where people who do things that bother them but because some people bring stuffed animals on a cruise we have to start a thread to complain about it?
Sorry, I just don't get it. Why would it bother you? It's not affecting you and if people want to have fun and this makes then happy then so what. Ignore them. Don't look at them or their stuffed animal. It's their vacation too.

I don't know if they still have them, but years ago when my DS was a baby (he's 24 now) the big toy that Christmas were these little stuffed animals with a recorder in them that you could squeeze, leave a little message, then squeeze again and play it back.
The adults had more fun with that stupid thing than the kids ever did *LOL*

We have done it because we enjoy it. Period.
Sometimes others, even the crew, happen to share our feelings...
http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss348/TexMexSu/JacqueJessicaWeeeeJimmy.jpg
Never really thought about what anyone else thought, really do not care now.
http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss348/TexMexSu/JacqueJessicaFormalDinner.jpg
Not trying to impress anyone on our vacation, just there to have fun however we decide to do it.
http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss348/TexMexSu/JacqueJessicaFrozenThingie.jpg
Some people dance, others dress up and drink fine vines, some drink in excess wearing wife beaters.
You are on vacation, on a CARNIVAL cruise.
I am certainly not knocking the OP but.....
I just don't get .....starting a thread about not getting the stuffed animal thing.
Honestly, it's fun and we have had some pretty interesting stories and funny instances with it.
This idea started for us when our daughter was young and had to carry an egg around with her for school. 24 hours a day she had to care for it like it was a baby while we were on vacation.
Everyone including the stewardesses on our plane interacted with the egg and us!
There is nothing here to really get.
Keyword is FUN. To each is own.

I totally "get it" and think it's great. The angry birds review was hilarious!
I think with all the stress in our lives these days people need to loosen up and just have fun, don't sweat the small stuff, right?
My mom and I take a girls cruise every year with a friend of ours. Well this year she chose to have a baby instead  and while she is absolutely thrilled with her new baby girl, she is sad that she is missing out on our yearly vacation together. So we've almost decided to take a picture of her head on a stick with us. We'll take a few photos here and there and when we get home I'll make a cheap photo book of just the pictures of her on vacation with us. It's just for a laugh but she'll think it's great that we actually thought of her and spent the time to do it on our vacation.
So see, sometimes it may just seem silly but really it's because we're missing our cruising companions and want them to feel like they were a part of our vacation, even though they weren't really there. :o

We mailed Flat Stanley all over the county and had relatives take pictures of him with landmarks of their particular state. It was hilarious.

Well, we travel with a gnome that is dressed in University of Texas colors, his name is Tex. His picture is in my avatar :) He travels with us, and he has his own album on my Facebook page. Friends ask about him often. Tex travels in the water bottle holder on my backpack, so he's really no trouble to take along. We do it because it's fun. Nuff said. :)

We have a small stuffed javelina that we always take on vacations! Her name is Josephina and she wears an Arizona Cardinals ribbon around her neck. We have a picture of her everywhere we go, from sightseeing in Las Vegas to every cruise and beach. She's about the size of my hand, and when she's not travelling she's guarding our car from the front cup holder.
My DH and I are in our 50's. Childish, immature, juvenile, and silly? You bet.
Oh, and her favorites foods are shrimp alfredo, coffee, and the DOD's on the ship. She loves to visit with the towel animals and have her picture taken with them. The cabin steward always has her posed with them to surprise us when we return to our room.

My girlfriends daughter has woofy (a stuffed dog) that whenever we go anywhere we take pictures of us holding the dog to show to her daughter and she would get the biggest smile on here face. Woofy is a little tattered these days but we still do it and we still show here daughter and she still gets a big smile on her face. It truly is priceless. I don't see what it's hurting anybody. If they had a stuffed animal that was from an adult store or something that you could take offence from then I could see making a big deal out of it but its a stuffed animal for heavens sake. Get over it.

And, on the plus side, you (or your cabin steward) didn't have to deal with a litter box in your cabin!

It had never really bothered me one way or the other and I really couldn't care UNTIL....we were sailing on Costa and sitting next to us in the dining room was a woman with a monkey puppet. The kind with the string. She only talked through the puppet and it was super annoying and she would get in your face with that thing. I had to tell her that it freaked me out. I have CLL and I don't want that germ infested thing any where near my face. I'm glad she thinks it's fun but respect my boundaries and move away....the more she drank the worse it became and she ALWAYS wanted you to pose with pictures with her and her monkey....

Where do I get a puppet like that? After all I am into, cool, strange, freaky, and just plain odd.
Ok, just had a strange thought, if she had to fly to the port, I wonder if the puppet was subject to an enhansed pat down? or a full body scan?

LOL, at this thread. Actually it doesnt bother me at all. I dont do it, ( probably because Im strange enough, without having to bring attention to myself ). But really, different strokes as they say. To each their own rituals. It reminds me of once years ago, when a friend dragged me along to "bingo". I was amazed at all the folks their who had set up their favorite little stuffed toys and dollies, not to mention all those bingo cards, and the big stampers they used to mark them. I took it all in, in wonderment. It was not for me, but no problem, it was obviously working for all those folks. So really, it is not hurting anyone, so no big deal. JMHO.:)

Well, first there's this (http://good-times.webshots.com/video/3082353380102635822KEDpsA?vhost=good-times) ...
They make me smile. They make me laugh. They make other people shake their heads.
And that's all quite OK with me.
What people don't always know, or bother to take the time to find out, is if there is a story to the stuffed animal. Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn't.

I think the OP posted this "tongue in cheek", meant to razz the people who do this. :) Personally, I am thinking of taking a lego minifig to pose in some pics on my next cruise. Just have to decide which one. lol
Hi Everyone.. OP here...
Yes, Yes, Yes... this was exactly my intention!!
I got home from a long day at work today and my DH says... "Oh Boy, are YOU IN TROUBLE on CC!!". Holy cow, your responses are brutal!!
I realize after over 10 years here that I need to be VERY careful in my dry humor... and I read it back now and realize how it could be taken the wrong way.
So much for being cute.
And.... BTW>>> the Angry Bird Review was one of the best ones I have ever read. I may not "GET" the whole entire stuffed animal thing... but I was NEVER complaining about it. I was actually looking for the people to tell the stories of why they bring their mascots!!

I'm not sure the OP is complaining, moreso curious as to why people do it. The OP isn't bashing anyone.
I don't get it either, but some of the photos do amuse me.
I want to see photos of these stuffed animals dressed up for elegant night. :D

The stuffed animals, gnomes, blow up dolls/animals whatever cool beans just don't talk to me with them!;)
I would have looked at the monkey and called it a few choice names, probably questioning its taste in dinner companions. When the lady took offence and asked for an apology I'd have told her I was talking to the monkey, not her. :D

Took a friend who couldn't make the cruise. Printed her picture up and put it on a church fan. She stared out the back window on the drive down. She was snapped giving us the finger late one night in bed. Also snapped sunbathing, and oh the horror, she was caught buying from the farmacia. She was left behind... inside the corner box light, looking out and smiling. Wonder what happened to her:confused:

Maybe it's someone's Grandma who never got to go on a cruise? http://www.huggableurns.com/
We were sort of going to do something like the travelling gnome thing with my Grandma's cane. She fell over the summer and the doctor said she wasn't allowed to use it anymore but she refused to give it up so we kidnapped it. I jokingly suggested that whenever someone in the family goes on vacation they should take the cane and take a pic with it wherever they go. But then we realized that the cane was quite long and a PITA to get into smaller luggage.

I never gave thought to doing my pictures this way, but.....next cruise they will have something. I'm stuck in time with my Furby collection (oh, I forgot, that's for kids), now which furby gets the honor of going with me?

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
I have taken a small Koala Bear, Aussie on a few cruises and really enjoy the photos of his travels, which picture him at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, in Florence Italy with the Doumo and Tower in the background, with a Gondolier in Venice, and an old sailor in Croatia who had spent 40 years in Australia. This sweet old guy runs a restaurant there and saw me with Aussie and got so excited. He asked me to wait while he ran inside and came back with a tiny little clip on Koala Bear which he presented to Aussie. So now Aussie has a pet to carry as well.
I write a journal of our travels with him from his point of view. He travels with his own little suitcase which is not much larger than a fanny pack and has a tuxedo, gondolier jacket, soccer clothes, golf clothes with bag and clubs, custom tees and white terry (carnival style) robe. He has hats, sunvisor, sunglasses and a small backpack and enjoys the mini golf on the ship and laying out in the sun. He loves the towel animals and I ask the steward to leave all of them in the cabin so Aussie has someone to hang out with when we are out. By then end of the cruise he has a whole group of new friends in the cabin.
At home, he has been to Bellingrath Gardens, McDonalds Playland, Battleship USS Alabama, Bay Bears stadium and numerous other places. I have never met anyone who didn’t like him and if someone doesn’t “get” him, well it’s their loss. The old Carnival commercial featured Cindy Lauper's song “girls just wanna have fun,” and this old girl is going to have fun as long as I can.
I once saw a group of 4 or 5 ladies bring a full size inflatable male doll on board and they brought him to meals and danced with him, took him to ports and even dressed him for each event. They had a blast. That was one of the funniest things I ever saw and I just wished I had thought of it first.

I have't read all 7 pages since I posted on the first page... my Mickey Mouse has outfits for the occassion... so if it is formal night, he wears his tux into the dining room. All this is for fun and we do try to leave him in the cabin after awhile, but then everyone asks where he is...so obviously most people like the idea. My albums are full of all the places the Mouse has been... he is the best traveled Mouse (other than the real Mickey Mouse)... it is all for fun and that is what vacations are about.

Both of my adult aged DS's have cognitive disabilities, and one takes his Build A Bear Workshop Frosty the Snowman on every vacation. Frosty has been to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, the 1000 Islands, Myrtle Beach, Disney World, New Orleans, Nashville, and all places inbetween. Last year Frosty did go with us on our cruise, but we only took pictures of him in our cabin. We are inspired by the Angry Birds review, so Frosty will be modeling on various parts of the ship in just 2 short weeks!:D Not sure if Frosty will make it into the ports, because it would be a disaster if he were to get lost or left behind.

We have a rabbit named Felix. He is a German story book character that lost his owner in an airport and travels the world sending postcards home. Our neighbor, a first grade teacher, uses Felix as part of her geography lessons. She asked us to take him on one of our cruises and bring back pictures for her students. We had such positive feedback from people and he helped start great conversations. We will never travel without him again. And the kids loved the pictures too.

I like the reviews that include stuffed animals in the photos. I think it is a really cute idea and makes for a fun review to read. For example, the Angry Birds review was one of the most entertaining reviews I have read on here! I am crusing next month with my kids and my daughter has a monkey that she has carried around with her since she was 2. I was thinking about doing Monkey's cruise in pictures. It's vacation...why not let loose and be silly for a few days?! I plan on leaving serious at home where it belongs...bring on the Monkey cruise!

We are ALWAYS accompanied by some sort of stuffed mascot. Last time we cruised we took along "Mort" from the Penguins of Madagascar,, and every evening when we returned to our cabin the steward had posed him with our towel animal of the day!

On our Alaska cruise we help a family take several pics with thier cabbage patch doll. Mind you he was....slightly modified.
They had a family member that was in the military and he got deployed so couldn't go on the cruise with them. So they cut out his face and taped it on the doll, and put some "lumberjack" looking clothes on it. So they were taking pictures all over with it so that when he got back he could see all the pictures and feel like he was there.
Now to me, that's not silly or dumb.

Go ahead and think what you want, but unless my frog jumps away from me and bites you, then I really am not sure why you need to worry about it. He's a lot more quiet than a lot of the uncontrolled kids that run around and will not take any of your space on the pool deck or spa.

I have done it twice (using beanie babies) and probably will do it every now and then. It is a lot of fun to tell a story of your trip with the animal. The first time I had a good friend fighting in Iraq. We had a military bear doing everything gambling, drinking, swimming, sunning and some risque photos w/ towel animals. My friend and his buddies loved it.
Last year I took one of my co-workers childs animals on the cruise for a Slim Stanley sort of project. Of course the lamb could not be as friendly with the towel animals, but boy did it get around. My co-worker could not wait for updates and pics. She and her husband enjoyed it as much if not more than the child did. The child got an A on the project.
Mom always complains that there are no pics of people just scenery, but she refuses to have her pic taken. She loves the animal being inserted in the photos. No more complaints.
Here is a link to the book I made for the child: http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0CbNW7Jo1asWOj

There was once a full sized monkey that hung out on the balcony and one day decided to go for a swim.
Let us say Carnival was not amused. Funny funny thread though.
I was totally on this cruise! I was actually standing outside my balcony when the damn thing wafted by, on his way down for a dip in the ocean. I went inside our cabin to tell Indy about it, and was tossed across the room as the ship made a hard right turn.
I think more people were hacked about the last two people who held up the ship getting underway again (the captain was furious), instead of the monkey (and his owners).
I think the mascot thing is cute, just make sure it's clean before you plop it on the dinner table for a photo op.

I totally agree with the OP, the taking of stuffed animals in public and posing them for photos, putting them on the dinner table, etc. is childish. But if folks enjoy it, fine, but we can still have an opinion.

I found a "cruise mascot" because I saw how much fun Lambie was having with hers. That's what cruising is all about, isn't it? FUN on the Fun Ship? Mingo has accompanied me on at least 10 cruises, so that would make her Platinum now, wouldn't it? :D One of Mingo's main functions is to aid other CC members in finding me on embarkation day. Who can miss that flamboyant character? I, on the other hand, am very low key and shy. Mingo is an ice breaker for me. She's fun. And for those who say she would be a bother to you to have to carry her around.... Um, did I ever ask you to carry her for me?

I also plan to do a scrapbook of nothing but those bird pictures! I named him "Machbird" after my good friend Host Mach!!

I had to chime in... my group of friends and I have a traveling "rubber chicken" we refer to as Humphrey Bogart (or Bo for short). He's gone to the, Hoover Dam, Florida Keys, Las Vegas, New York... and so on. We find it hilarious... and we're in our late twenties. :D

It had never really bothered me one way or the other and I really couldn't care UNTIL....we were sailing on Costa and sitting next to us in the dining room was a woman with a monkey puppet. The kind with the string. She only talked through the puppet and it was super annoying and she would get in your face with that thing.
The stuffed animals, gnomes, blow up dolls/animals whatever cool beans just don't talk to me with them!;)

I totally agree with the OP, the taking of stuffed animals in public and posing them for photos, putting them on the dinner table, etc. is childish. But if folks enjoy it, fine, but we can still have an opinion.
I think people that smuggle booze on the ship and spend their time drunk and partying..is childish, and what a waste of money..:)
this hurts no one, no one wakes up hung over in the morning wondering what they did, doesnt cost anything, makes for great conversation..and is just good clean fun...
Here is a picture of our captain, Made on the ship, 100% Carnival, and this is what He does when us passengers are panicking about the hurricanes..

My 5-y/o granddaughter asked me to take her cow "Mooly" with me on my first cruise which was to the Mex Riv. Mooly went along with his head sticking out of my backpack and had his picture taken at various places around the ship. Every day I'd send a new picture of Mooly to my granddaughter. My son said that she waited every day for the picture to come and always had a big smile on her face.
Mooly came home with a just-his-size sombrero and a "I (heart) Puerto Vallarta t-shirt, also just his size.

Why didn't I get to meet Toga Dawg?
OK, so someone on one of my roll calls was an older woman (no, not me) traveling solo and she takes one of these dolls that looks like a live baby and dresses it up to fit the weather and excursion. That was a little creepy for me.
I don't "get" it, either, but I'm an old Stick-in-the-Mud. :p
But I also don't "get" why anyone cares one way or the other what anyone else likes or doesn't like or does or doesn't do!
As long as it doesn't interfere with me doing what I enjoying doing on my cruise, then it's none of my business.

I haven't read all the responses, but here is mine:
My "toy" was Rover the Dog who belongs to my grandson. Since his mommy and daddy won't let him cruise with us yet, he sent Rover along to watch over us. I can't begin to tell you the fun my grandson had seeing the pictures and hearing the stories of Rover the Dog. We also met quite a few people on the ship due to Rover.
And yes, we will do it again.

On one of our cruisers we brought our alligator "Molly," full sister to Ollie and Wally, who were left at home.
Now, apparently, Molly is a little bit of a flirt, shaking her tail etc., because whenever we came back to our cabin we had one piece of candy on each of our pillows, but in front of Molly there were like ten pieces. She never told us exactly what went on between her and the steward.

I love seeing people having fun with their mascots! I think the pictures are a nice whimsical change from the standard run-of-the-mill, overdone cruise photos. I mean, how exciting can that 50th picture of a melting cake or prime rib be anyway? Standard ship's atrium shot? BORing!
My 5-year-old daughter always brings two stuffed cats, and we usually return to our cabin each evening to find that the cabin steward tucked them into my daughter's bed all cozy. :D So on the last evening, we let the cats hold onto the steward's thank you card and bonus tip while we go to dinner.
Our last cruise, my daughter also brought her doll, Zoe, who wore a dress that matched my daughter's on formal night. Here's Zoe getting served her meal:
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t262/LadyJag73/Carnival%20Legend%202011/Legend%20Sea%20Day%201%20042611/0425_Zoeeatcu2-1.jpg
One night, one of our waiters made a little rabbit out of a napkin. Unfortunately, the bunny wasn't well trained and had a little "accident":

Actually one of the adults in our group had spilled his champagne all over the table. He was embarrassed, so we blamed the bunny and took this picture so he wouldn't feel so bad about it.
It's all just good fun. :D

Shortly after our marriage, my wife bought a really goofy frog lamp. Tacky green thing just over a foot tall. Well one day on a visit, my brother stole it. We didn't notice at first - until we started getting notes in the mail. He was sending anonymous letters to us with pictures of his "vacation". The frog in London, the frog in a taxi, the frog passed out after a bender. Took us two years to figure out who stole it. He would loan it to people, and they would take it to all sorts of places. Funniest stuff I ever got in the mail. We started looking forward to see where the frog lamp would end up next.

When I was a little girl, I was given a Raggedy Ann doll who went everywhere with me. I still have her and I still take her with me. She was a "friend" to me when I was a child and as a well rounded adult, I've taken her with me on trips to Europe, shark cage diving in Hawaii, at the ruins of Tulum Mexico, "snorkeling" via a Ziploc bag in the Cayman Islands (underwater camera captured that one!), she was in my backpack with me when I completed my first 5K and she was with me as I gave birth to my daughter.
To the OP, it's not for you to understand. Some people get joy in simple things...My raggedy ann was a childhood toy who was a source of comfort growing up in an abusive family and she will always be important to me, so I choose to take her along. My husband finds it amusing and I take her out for a photo or two in certain locations.

Everyone say hello to Stupid Bear
http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h349/chuckietwo/IMG_2354.jpg
Stupid Bear cruises with my DH and me.
A year before my father passed away he had a heart attack and went into a coma for a month. He lived in Florida and I lived in Georgia, it was 7 hours to get to his place, and yet I drove down every other weekend. Actually I had been driving down there every two weeks for two years. But one time I realized that he was most happy when I was there and holding his hand. I explained to him that since I could not always be there, and he needed to hold another hand of someone or something that loved him. And I gave him Stupid Bear(he named the bear). My father taught me to love to travel, and he would hold the bear's "paw" when I wasn't there. He was holding the bear's paw when he passed away, and I was holding his other hand. The bear goes where I go, because what my father taught me, was the love of traveling. You don't understand, no one has asked you to.

The OP wasn't abusing those who choose to find their inner child and carry toys around all day. I can only assume that the ignorant stick up your arse prevented you from reading, and understanding, the whole thread. ;)
Usually people speak up (in this case, create a post) coz they want people to hear what they're saying. If I want to say something that I think might offend someone, I keep it to myself or among people that won't get offended. The OP knew that these reviews with stuffed toys she was talking about were of members who frequent this board and will of course read her post. If she intended for her thread to be taken lightly and not offend anyone, she could have worded her post a little differently than
"while most is a bit ridiculous." and
"Can't we just leave the toys at home?"
However, I'm glad that this thread had members post their stuffed toy pictures. I enjoyed seeing them all!

I can't believe this thread. The same people who don't get the stuffed toy thing are likely the same ones who would jump up and down if their room steward didn't put the towel animals on their bed every night.
Everybody has their own binkies.
For example, and I'm included and not criticizing anyone here...but how many folks on land (or sea) have to lug around bottled water everywhere they go 24/7?
How bout those of us who have to have a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other?

Come on...someone must have tried it. Maybe using a baby doll's feeding bottle...filled with booze? :D

How about this...a "Quarantined" sign?? Then, when you hear some folks going by you go out and start coughing in the hall. Eh?:)
Don't give me any ideas *LOL*

Reminds me of a cruise I took 30+ years ago on Princess. I took a large Paddington Bear with me as my roomie. He was the hit of the ship-especially with the mostly English crew. The cabin attendant left him marmalade & cookies, something every night. Crew started to ask me to bring him around. Girls wanted to dance with him. The friend I was traveling with originally thought I was nuts, but admitted at the end of the cruise that it really worked well for me!!
Thanks for the reminder..I haven't thought about that in years.:)

Loved the Angry Bird review! BEST EVER!
I mean, good lord, next we will be hearing that its childish and "I just don't get" the need for stupid towel animals left all over my bed each night. Not to mention that some room stewards, have, *gasp*, put our sunglasses on a towel animal. "Some sort of joke or cutesy thing I guess... I just don't get it." *sigh*
Its called a sense of humour people!! Its fun, cute, and makes us laugh! If you don't get this, I don't want to share a table with you in the MDR!

"Mr Scruffy" (an ally cat) has been on 7 transatlantic crossing. 5 on the QE2 and 2 on Carnival. He has been on 17 Carnival Cruises. He is a "Diamond" past guest on Cunard and "Platinum" on Carnival. He was on a Cunard World Cruise in 2008. He gets his own Sail & Sign card on almost every cruise. Everywhere we go, HE gets more attention from other passengers and staff than I do. On the DREAM Transatlantic crossing he was on Todd's Morning show. :p

My 4 yr old gets a CCL stuffed animal each cruise and she carries it around so it's in photos. But it is a 4 yr old's toy. I would not bring along a stuffed animal for myself but some adults still collect them.

Although he is not stuffed, I am the foster Mom of an Alien Robot who crashed landed in my backyard a few years ago. After a couple weeks of waiting for his Earth Child to return for him on the composter lid , he decided to come live with us and explore the planet. He keeps me entertained and company when DH decides to nap an entire afternoon away on vacations. So far he's been to our cottage, Western Carribean, Florida, Western Canada, Alaska and 4 plane rides.

I loved the angry bird review and I think it is fine for folk to take their "friends" with them on their travels. I have a crazy looking red headed small stuffed leprechaun from Ireland i think its time for him to travel :)

Well it all started off as a joke with my wife's sister, but now she travels everywhere with a little plastic penis.
I would post a few pics of some of the places it has traveled but knowing how so many people get their panties in a wad, I would probably be banned for life:rolleyes:
But we have pictures of him (Sneaky Pete) all over the Carribean, on Cruise ships, Dominican Republic, Casinos in Canada, on the brink of Niagara falls, flying at 36,000 feet and the list goes on and on!
Heck this little guy has seem more action than alot of real ones (trip wise that is)...:D

I loved Flat Stanley.. I took my nephew all over the place and took picture of him and Flat Stanley. We had a blast!!
I think it's time for a Flat Stanley cruise review. :D
These "devices" are really a way for cruisers doing reviews to let their hair down (or molt feathers), have a bit of fun and enliven their cruise, and share their memories with us here.

This post brings tears to our eyes...would love to meet Stupid Bear one day:)

And my plan is to hopefully make a"build a bear" while on the Magic next January who will then continue to travel with me and the family on future adventures. I don't get the folks who smuggle liquor on board, but I realize I was raised by two serious alcoholics and that has colored my view of folks who can't survive without that much liquor - and I do love a good margarita myself. But I don't plan on criticizing on those posts about smuggling 4 or 5 bottles of liquor for a 7 day cruise.:D

Love the thread...and the OP was just joking..but at first I didn't get that either..she sweetly same back..and without it we never would have had this fun...
I was afraid to mention that a friend brought a friend inside some of those Russian nesting dolls, at least i hope I did not until now//too tired//..that one is well..just it was a bit weird to me at the time..i understand though...several people had some of him in those dolls...I think they eventually had a proper burial at sea in San Diego..I will not say the bad jokes that came to mind..but the stories relieve my conscious..although I am sure i will care less and not be there...i do not want to be in a bunch of different containers..ever..LOL..Sarah

*LOL* Coming from someone who roped off their lawn with yellow police "Do Not Cross" tape when I had it reseeded (complete with a chalk outline on the side walk :).
I really like the "For Rent "sign idea.
Stuff like that has a two fold effect . It gives a chuckle to people with a sense of humor , and annoys the hell out of people who don't.
Whats better than that ?
Hmmmm......Yellow Police Tape! That gives me sooooo many ideas! LOL We use the same kind of tape at work, but it says Quality Control on it. May have to snag some before our next cruise.
I'm going to blame my sister for the sign, she wrote on it where a name or phone number would be. "Oceanfront property-current tenants are slackers" she also got my dad's cabin door with a Garage Sale sign and wrote in "Everything must go! We got plenty, all out of kitchen sink" Little jab at his wife who seriously overpacked. Dad didn't see the humor in it. To this day, he still thinks Carnival posted it on his door, he never figured out it was his youngest child! LMAO!

Hello? Hello?
Where am I?
I went to sleep on a Carnival board, and now, I have no idea where I am.
I have never heard of Cruise Rituals, sounds like something dark and sinister to me.
I sure wish when the moderator moves a thread they would at least post a note as to why it was moved. (NO I am not questioning the rules)
This thread has been doing so well for almost a month now. Keeping on topic of taking a "friend" on the cruise with them, and having fun. No real fighting, or insults, just good clean cruise fun.

When I first saw a blog post about a "critter" going on a cruise, I knew our next cruise would not be perfect unless one of our virtual dogs came along too!
