I don't have any cruises planned on Holland America at the moment but this morning I got 2 emails from HAL instructing me to open a link and provide them with my flights information. Could this be a mistake on their part and this email be legit or is this a virus? I wasn't sure and did not open the email. Has anyone else gotten the same email?

I haven't and I would be very, very careful about opening the link. It could be a computer hiccup on HAL's part but it could be some kind of spam with something nasty attached if you open the link. Typically I'd not think of HAL as an avenue a spammer or hacker would use because it's not all that well known out of a relatively small community but you never know.

I also would not open link. Since you have nothing booked it's phishing IMO.

If you get another, notify HAL. I would be curious (were I you) what this was all about.

I think that was smart. Certainly it could be HAL and computer glitch or somebody who entered their email with HAL incorrectly but I wouldn't take the chance. I agree if they keep coming it might be worthwhile to contact HAL. If a bunch of us start getting emails then we'd know something afoot and HAL definitely would need to know.

Thanks for posting this. Makes the rest of us pay attention and such an e-mail will now really ring a bell.

Good you didn't open the lilnk, IMO

Sometimes you get email that appears to come from a legit source, but isn't. Often it is very similar, but not quite the same address. For instance, I get crap that appears to be from PayPal, but the email comes from PayPall. Very slight difference, but that's what I look for. Delete anything that concerns you. You can always go to their website or call them directly. It's a good practice to NOT click in a link received via email.

Yes, I received the same email. It infomed me that a won a free Bermuda cruise out of New York including air from my home city to New York.

Just kidding.

Sure it did. And all you had to do to get the cruise was type in your checking account number so they could debit your account for the cost of overnighting the cruise voucher, plus your mother's maiden name, date of birth, and social security number because of "heightened security" ;)

Have you heard about the new reverse Nigerian scam where they offer to "help" victims of the old version? Same result for people who fall for it.
