Hi everyone,
Which 1/2 day tour would you recommend if you could only do ONE .....Delos or Mykonos? It will be my first time to this part of the world, and I would like to make the most of my opportunities.
I enjoy taking photos for memories.
Cheers Anne

Much depends on what you like to do and see, personally. AND, where else you are visiting during your cruise??? Are you more of a history, beach, shopping, scenic countrysides, etc., etc., type of person? For some, Delos is great history. Others might have gotten enough of this "old stuff" in doing visits to Ephesus, Athens, etc.
Below are some of my pictures from around in Mykonos and its nearby beach areas. Lots of nice options in this area.
Tell us more on your budget, ages, party size, past Europe/Frances experience, personal travel style, interests, likes, loves and dislikes, etc. Then, with more detailed information from you, we can make better, more specific suggestions on what best fits your needs and interests.
THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Here’s a sampling of the narrow flowered street in Mykonos with its many shops. The streets were made so narrow in order to fend off pirate attackers. It is an island with lots of history and legend dating back thousands of years, including connections to ancient Greek mythology. Ionians settled on Mykonos in the early part of the 11th century BC. As Delos developed as a sacred center, Mykonos was under the influences of the different people, including Phoenicians, Macedonians and Athenians. With the rise of Alexander the Great, the fate of Mykonos became a commercial center for agriculture and maritime trade. Mykonos flourished with enormous wealth during Roman occupation during the reign of Augustus Caesar. During the Middle Ages, Mykonos fell under the Venetians and later were victimized by the Saracens and latter the Turks. Starting in the 1950’s, its unique architecture, seclusion and hospitality have made it a haven for the rich and famous.:

This harbor view in Mykonos shows one of the charming windmills. From as early as the 16th century, these are one of the most recognized landmarks of Mykonos. The island is 33 square miles in size and has a population of 9,300, mostly in its main village.:

Depending on your ship's hours in port, you may be able to take their tour of Delos and still have time to walk around Mykonos. If your ship docks, there is generally a shuttle from the dock into Mykonos town for a few euro. If your ship tenders, the tender will drop you off right in town. You do not really need a tour to walk around and take some lovely photos (colorful fishing boats, whitewashed churches, old windmills, etc).
I agree Delos is not to be missed. If you don't know a lot about Greek history, it's probably good to do a guided tour here. I would not miss it, but others who are not so interested in ancient history or ruins might say different....;)

As Terry said, Delos is fine if you want to see some ruins (which is all there is to see and do on Delos). Delos is essentially like a desert island with ruins. Mykonos, on the other hand, is a resort island with some decent shopping and wonderful beaches.

Cynthia and Hank, etc., make excellent points to consider. You can see lots in the cute village of Mykonos just by walking around in an hour or two. It's not that large. If you are going to Delos and other key historic areas, it is important to read up in advance about the background there. Otherwise, you get there, see it and do not fully appreciate the why for how this site is so important. A good guide can offer that history, but if not, you need to know this history ahead of time in order to understand fully what you are seeing.
Here are a few more views on Mykonos. Lots of great posted pictures, especially those by zqvol. Brings back nice memories from visiting Mykonos.

Thankyou for the wonderful photos. You have made my decision easy and createrd a wonderful anticipation.
It will be our first time to the Mediterranean, I love to take photos and can see that both locations deserve equal time and attention.
This will be one trip where I will need to come home from for a rest.
Thanking you all,
Regards Anne

YES, Anne, do your resting before and after your cruise in the Med. Lots of super great port options in most areas. That's the "blessing" and "curse" for most of these areas here in this part of the world. Most places are not "one trick ponies" that can be done, all of it, in just an hour or two.

We got to Mykonos early, before it got crowded, walked around on our own for the morning, where we got some AMAZING photos. It is a beautiful little town. We took the late ship's excursion to Delos and it was one of the highlights of our trip! Don't miss it. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The history of Delos is fascinating.
This was probably my favorite port on this Solstice cruise in 2009.
Enjoy!

Below are a few more beach pictures from Greece. I am pretty sure that visual you highlighted was Agrari. As a back-up, it could be nearby Elia. Here are a few more visuals from these great areas to get you excited until you arrive there in person.

Great photo Terry. And it sure does look like Agari although we do not remember that many chairs/palapas at that beach. Makes me want to be back on Mykonos :)
