Sailing on the Zuiderdam Dec 16-27. We are considering the shore excursion "Gatun Lake Eco Cruise & Locks to Colon". It is a 4 hour shore excursion, and part of it will be on a boat with no bathrooms. Are there any bathroom opportunities at all on this shore excursion such as a stop before or after the boat ride? How long is the actual boat ride on this excursion? Thanks.

I just did this in April and it was sooo worth it. The EcoCruise is only about 1-1/4 hours and there are restrooms at the start and end. There are also restrooms at the observation building at the locks.

My DH had the same question and wouldn't go since there is no way he could last 4 hours without one.

I don't think I could last for four hours without going either!

You might try the port boards rather than the cruise line boards for a port specific questions. Below is a link to the Panama board:

Furman thank you so much for asking this question! We've booked this excursion for Feb cruise and then I read about no bathrooms and thought yikes. Feel much better now about it!

Thanks

Have you ever noticed when there are no bathrooms that is when you have to go and when there are plenty of bathrooms you never have to go? One of natures little tricks.

Yep that's my life lol. I had thought about not drinking anything before we left for that excursion then realized that wasn't smart as it is usually quite hot there according to what i have read. Lol.

I did the excursion that went all the way through the canal. Long trip, but fantastic. They had bathrooms on the boat.

We are booked on a February 6, 2012 cruise with HAL. Is this the cruise you will also be on?

Just did the Panama Canal Experience on our Nov. 25 Zuiderdam cruise. After the partial transit through Gatun Locks into Gatun Lake, the ship anchors and you are tendered to shore were you board a AC bus (no restroom) for an approx. one hour drive. You than board a 200 passenger ferry where you sail through the major cut of the canal and continue on through all the remaining locks to the Pacific Ocean.

The ferry has adequate bathrooms, a basic lunch is provided buffet style, sodas and water provided, beer available for two dollars a can. It was raining hard so bring a travel poncho. Rainy season is nearing it's end but rain is always a possibility. Upon completion a bus ride back to the ship which has returned through Gatun Locks and will be anchored in Colon.

A very informative and exciting excursion that is only offered by Holland America. Don't hesitate to book as it usually sells out quickly.

Captain Turner told us that the cost of entering the Canal whether full or partial has increased this year to approx. $336,000.00 dollars!
