Hi,
I just accepted a job on Holland America's Amsterdam going seattle to alaska for this summer. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with Holland America, Alaska, or the Youth counselor position (my job). Thanks!

Scott,
If you post your email address, I will write to you; I have worked onboard HAL for the past five years.

So, you took the job without knowing anything about it? (Maybe I'm not reading your post correctly.) Have you had experience in a youth camp? If so, that should give you an idea of what the job entails.

Sorry if you my post was confusing. I do have experience as a youth counselor, but I was looking for some insight on what the job is like on a cruise ship. The HAL woman who hired me was very helpful over the phone telling me what to expect, I was just lookin for anyone who could give me details on things like crew life, time off , amount of kids etc.
Sungoddess, if you didn't work as a youth counselor did you know anyone that was? Did they enjoy it? From what I've heard it seems like a great job because you tend to get to spend time in port because HAL doesnt have any on board children's activities.
Boobaby, They tell me I'll most likely be working with the teens, but maybe you'll see me around the ship anyways!

Hi Scott,
I also used to work on board Holland America Line ships. Feel free to contact me individually should you have any further questions.
