Does this mean I have a better chance of being upgraded? We have a SC guarantee....hoping to get upgraded to an sa or sb...can't imagine we'd get upgraded to penthouse.....although that WOULD be nice

That's because no one but HAL knows the answer to that. It could happen...it might not.

There are only a couple of SCs, so not uncommon it would be sold out.
lorefauf is correct. As has been discussed many, many times, nobody knows the upgrade/upsell policies of the cruise lines. Or, if anybody knows, they aren't talking. As many will come on and say, and like us, they have never been upgraded in lots of cruises.
As others will say, you don't book for an upgrade. You book for the level you will be happy with, not hoping to get to the level you need. If an upgrade happens, be happy.

I was contacted by my TA that HAL would like to upgrade me from an S to a PS on my upcoming 7 day cruise out of Tampa... For $2000 additional! No thanks! ;)

That isn't an upgrade, it is an upsell.
An upgrade is an upgrade, a free upgrade if you do not pay extra or a paid upgrade if you do.
When you buy a car they will give you free upgrades or you pay to get the extra big tyres, both are upgrades.

CruiseBruce, Oh I'm VERY happy with my cabin category, who wouldn't be with a deluxe verandah suite? Just was curious to see what other peoples experience was in the same situation. If I don't get an upgrade I'll be just as happy, I did book the category based on my needs, not based on an upgrade.
