Hi! Anyone know about getting to St. John from St. Thomas? Am sailing on the Zuiderdam 4/16 and the ship-provided excursion doesn't depart until 12:30. Would like to get over the John earlier and have some time in the afternoon to shop in St. Thomas.

Thanks!

The ferry leaves from Red Hook to Cruz Bay every hour on the hour, beginning at 8 a.m. The cost is $3 or $4 pp each way.

Yes.. and I definately recommend doing this. I went on 3/06 to Trunk Bay. Here's the breakdown. Cab to Red Hook - $8. one way (about 20 mins). Ferry to St. John's $3.00 (recommend purchasing round trip to save time coming back) (approx 25 mins), $3.00 for cab to Trunk Bay (5 mins). $4.00 admission to the National Park. Total round trip $32pp. Compare that to the cruiseline - you can save a few $$. Just allow ample time for travel. There are botanical gardens and other things to see in the national park if you choose to go there. We went just for the beach which was absolutely gorgeous. Well worth the trip and very enjoyable. Bring your snorkel gear as they have a nice underwater snorkle path set up by the park district. I'm going back again in the fall.:)

Trunk Bay is one of the best beaches we have ever gone to. You can rent scuba gear right there or just enjoy the spectacular beach and great view.

We are just back from the Zui and did St John.:) .we were off the ship early and took a taxi to RedHook and got the 10AM ferry..we were second in line for Ferry tickets and had to wait for the ticket person to arrive back on the Ferry to sell tickets, they are not in any real rush. . I stayed in line with my friend Holly and our DH went to the lttle store across the street for soda's water and a few snacks to take to the beach.I would suggest getting RT also to save time and standing in line at the end of the day.The ferry was full
After the short ride to St John we again caught a taxi but we skipped Trunk Bay and went to Cinnamon Bay ..it was almost empty..you coud rent snorkel equipment, we had our own but our friends rented theirs and a chair, they had no lockers but there was a bathroom and a shower and someplace to buy lunch but we skipped eating.
It was beautiful...we stayed until after 3 and than again got a taxi, back to the ferry..we than took a taxi to Charlotte Amalia and did some shopping, all the stores close at 5pm.
If I had to do it again I would stay longer take the 4pm Ferry and skip shopping..we were in port until 9pm so there was not real rush back.
Enjoy your day there it is great
