We're taking our first holiday cruise on the Westerdam this year which includes Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. From all you cc'rs who have cruised during the holidays is it normal for passengers to decorate their cabin doors?? We've been considering this, but don't want to take along items for this if it's not the norm.

We've cruised numerous times over the holidays and never decorated our room. All the ships we've been on during the holidays have plenty of decorations in all the public areas, which was enough decorations for us. Plus we don't like to pack and lug any more than is absolutely necessary.
I don't know what others do, so I don't know if we're normal or abnormal. :D

It's something we've done over the four or so holiday cruises we've taken. You'll see HAL-supplied wreaths in the hallways at each door, and mebbe one-in-ten cabins have brought something extra. However, rather than bringing decorations from home though, we usually buy something at our port of embarkation, which makes for an interesting memento for subsequent Christmases.

Every cruise - We always decorate around the outside of the door with tinsel. I can look down that long hallway and always find the cabin. Our "neighbors" always thank us - it has helped them find their cabins.
We have been on a holiday cruise and most doors were decorated. In fact a couple of us walked the halls looking at all of the wonderful holiday decorated doors.

I think you are going to find a little bit of everything. In some years, the ship has had a wreath on the door or on the mailbox for all cabins - but not seen that the last few years. Some people have brought wreaths or wrapped their doors with wrapping paper. We bring a little tree to put in the room as well.
I say it's your vacation and holiday - do what will make YOU feel happiest!
By the way Bonafide, not sure if you have joined our roll call - we haven't been the most active group but looks like we are planning a meet/greet - right now tentatively after the lifeboat drill. Would love to have you join us on the boards and at the meet/greet!

We will be leaving soon for our second Christmas cruise. Last year we packed our stockings with us and put one on the door and one in the room. As others have said, it helped us find our cabin easily and our neighbors looked for it also. We were near an stair landing so it helped us spot our hallway.
We did confuse a few people because Christmas Eve we brought it into the room for our gifts. We put an ornament on the door in it's place, then heard from our neighbors who thought they were lost!
We were also surprised that some Secret Santa(s) placed little unexpected gifts in stocking!

Thanks everyone for the replies and all the input:) Really like the idea of the stocking on the door.
Micmac ... I was one of the first to join the roll-call ... just haven't been following it for quite some time, :o... but plan on doing that now:D

I used a magentic picture of our New Mexican luminarias on the outside of the door but remember, don't bring anything that you may be upset to lose. Not likely to get stolen, but it could get knocked off and then picked us as trash.

As others have said, some do and some don't. My all-time favorite was a young child's crayon drawing with the usual tree, etc., and in big letters: Santa - there is a child in this cabin!
