WE're planning to go to Fort Lauderdale a couple of days before our cruise. Can anyone recommend a hotel?
Thanks

We stayed at the Renaissance on 17th. Very nice, quiet hotel not far from Port Everglades. A shopping mall was withing walking distance as were some restaurants and the water taxi stop was a few blocks down by the Marriott.

The Radisson Bahia Mar on Seabreeze Blvd. (A1A)
Nice location ... oceanfront .. views of Port Everglades
I always stay there, and it's a great substitute if the Pier66 is booked solid.

Marriott Marina is very nice. I recommend the tower with a room overlooking the Intercoastal waterway. You will see all the ships coming in early in the morning. The water taxi stops there, it's close to shopping, and has a lovely pool. They have a port shuttle. Plus there is a Starbucks in the lobby.

Hope that helps.:)

We have twice stayed at the Amerisuites on 17th. The rate is $98 through ValueTrips (I think that is the name of the website). FABULOUS buffet breakfast is included. Very close to lots of shopping (for last minute items) and restaurants.

Cruznon, Go to the top of this page and click on boards. Scroll down until you see the board-Hotels Pre/Post Cruise. Click on that and you will find much information on FLL hotels from other posters. Don't be afraid to explore this web site. There is a plethra of information on it other than this board. Happy searching!!:) Nancy

Since you are staying for a few days, I assume you are not looking for a sleep and run type of place such as Amerisuites (where we have satyed and while it is OK for a pre cruise night, it is in a very unattractive location.) If money is no object, look at the Marriott Harbor Beach which is closer to a real resort with a long stretch of beach, huge pools, lots of tropical landscaping, and good dining. We did a post-cruise there and loved it. By the way, the NY Yankees were staying there at the same time while they were in town for a series with the Marlins.

We won the Renaissance 17th street on Priceline for $75.00 plus tax. Lovely hotel with great rooms and convenient to shopping and dining.

I stayed at the 17th Street Embassy Suites two years ago for $89. The rate included a hot breakfast and happy hour drinks. Close to the port and the rooms were very large. The front desk said they don't usually go that low on the rate, though. I had booked it four months out which probably helped. There was a large supermarket (Publix) across the street where you can get last-minute beer, wine, soft drinks and toiletries at landside prices. Next time I'll buy all that stuff there rather than pack it in my suitcase!

We have stayed twice at the Marriott Marina. They have a pre-cruise special which includes balcony room, $40 breakfast, room service if you want, and shuttle to the cruise ship. Two nice things about this property is that is has a water taxi stop (take the taxi to las olmas street!) for a few dollars, and a new drug store a block away with every possible cruise item. We paid $209 in February, which is more than some folks got on Priceline, but these are upgraded rooms, and less than other travelocity prices. I reserved on marriott.com

We've stayed a couple of times in the Plantation area. The last time we got a Sheraton Suite for $60. If you have a rental car it is not too bad.
BTW the giant flea market on Sunrise is a fun place to spend a little time.

I've stayed at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street too, and we were so pleased that we're staying there again the night before our upcoming cruise. Attractive hotel, great free breakfast, small but nice pool area, safe location, and you can easily walk to the marina area and some nice restaurants there. The Publix across the street is a great bonus. Best of all, they have free transportation from the FLL airport to the hotel AND from the hotel to the cruise port!
