Have fun,

Okay, my Pirate friends. Here is a new forum just for the Cruising Pirates and, of course, anyone else who would like to chime in. To give a little history, a large group of people met on the Mariner of the Seas back in September of 2007. Since then we have always tried to cruise together at least once a year. We have been on Mariner again, Freedom, Radiance, Dream, Monarch, and many, many other mini-cruises and mini-reunions. Instead of having to search out the current thread, I figured it would be much easier to also have a thread just for our friends.

Of course...over the years the Pirate group has grown bigger and bigger, but as we always say. The more the merrier.

Have fun posting and welcome to our very own thread!!!! Argh, Matey! Thar be Pirates aboard!!!

Bon Voyage Kat, Roger, Freddie, Karen, and of course John!

We weary pirates are coming home tomorrow. We are missing the grandkids now!......
December promotion is giving out decent magnet backed Crown & Anchor pins similiar to your Diamond pin size. We also received two luggage straps that are very nice....
We had a great time as usual with some pirates, but its time to come back to reality and hit the scales again! lol

Freddie...this is a great idea....as always you are the best. I do hope you have a wonderful time on Monarch.

We surprised the Pirates sailing on Jewel and jumped aboard on Dec. 5 as a surprise to everyone. We had a great time cruising with Pirates as we always do.
Roy and I have decided to forget the plan to buy a beach condo and cruise with Pirates and other cruise pals whenever we can. We love to cruise and being with friends makes it soooooo much more fun.

Hugs to all of you.

Ahoy Mateys...
We are back... We had a great time on the Jewel of the Seas!... We were surprised by some pirates sailing at the last minute. (Judy & Roy).

Kat & Roger are onboard the Serenade of the Seas today out of San Juan. They are sailing for 7 nights. There is a young lady who is a musician working on the ship who use to attend Kat's church. She is alone for Christmas on the ship, so Kat & Roger will be bringing Christmas gifts and cheer to her.

David & Nancy made it home safely this afternoon.
It's five o'clock and there is no Diamond lounge in sight!

Happy Saturday to all!

We had a blast on this cruise as well..We( Cindy, Freddie, Debbie and Myself) took the #10A jitney ( instead of the #10) by accident but we got a tour of the interior of the island!
$1.25 each way...

Still we wound up at the Daquari Shack..GREAT Daquari's...and we ran into Sharonoftheseas and her husband Gary!! There is an outdoor market there as well so we took some time to browse.
We then ALL decided to head to the Fish Fry...Well...there are a couple streets and most all the restaurants there are called..you guessed it...the Fish Fry! We found one that allowed us to sit upstairs on the back deck overlooking the inlet where Conchs were being fished out for our lunch!
After being satisfied with some Conch Fritters and Kalik beers all but Deb and I took a jitney back over to the ship area. She and I decided to walk back along the waters edge. Hearing alot of commotion in an adjoining park I asked a police officer what was going on and I was informed that it was the beginning of Junkaroo...the island Festival... a very exciting time for the Bahamians! The officer told me should plan to attend next time we visited Nassau! As we continued our walk back to the direction of the ship
we stumbled upon an outdoor bar/rest called Tiki Bikini...We orded a couple iced cold beer and we lead to the VIP sitting area! What a great little find this place was! As darkness was approaching we headed back to the ship..only to find the sidewalks roll up at dark...This was a very easy walk so don't be intimidated by it.

Cocoa Cay on day #2- Took the tender over and who was on the same tender but Sharonoftheseas and her husband! I guess it was destiny for us all to share this vacation together...Let me just say this..I don't remember when I have laughed so hard!!
There was a Captains Party for D+ on the beach from noon-1pm..however the Captain was a no show! Still had a fun time..heck free champagne..can't complain!
The weather couldn't have been better and the color of the water was spectacular changing from different huges of blue from minute to minute!

Aside from the usual forever wait to get off the ship everything was flawless! Great weekend...I hope to cruise with you guys again...SOON!!!!

I guess all the old Pirates have not got the word of this new thread. Everyone must be very busy with Christmas coming up in a very short time. As for me, I hope to get inside the house decorated today. The outside was done before we left on the Jewel.

Do you mean the swashbucklin' pirates? I think they may still be trying to get their land bearings.

Our back up Xmas tree (3 ft) cover was removed, and the tree is out, but it needs its ornaments fluffed up!

A new American ambassador was being entertained by an African diplomat.
They'd spent the day discussing what the country had received from the
Russians before the new government kicked them out. "The Russians built
us a power plant, a highway, and an airport. Plus, we learned to drink
vodka and play Russian roulette."

The American frowned. "Russian roulette's not a very nice game." The
diplomat smiled. "That's why we developed African roulette. If you
want to have good relations with our country, you'll have to play.
"I'll show you how."

He pushed a buzzer, and a moment later, six magnificently built, nude
women were ushered in. "You can choose any one of those women to give
you oral sex," he told the American.

"That's great," the ambassador said, "but it doesn't seem much like
Russian roulette."

"Oh, it is. One of them is a cannibal."

I just found this thread. Steve didn't tell me about it. He has lot's of other things on his mind lately. We had to take his dad tothe hospital on the 11th because he was yellow from head to toe. A few days later he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Because of his age,97, and his COPD they aren't doing any treatment. He doesn't want any treatment anyhow. They moved him to a rehab center for now then he will be going to Hospice. Steve visits him 2 times a day plus working so he has been very busy. He is holding up better than expected. So if were not on here very often you know why.

We wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season.

My sister and nephew came by for Christmas lunch and we had a great time. I, of course, did the cooking, decorations and planning (and then the clean-up), but it was a really wonderful day.

We have been so swamped at work that I haven't had much of an opportunity to get online and play. No complaints, though. Because of business being so good that resulted in a nice little bonus so no complaints from me.

Bit of bad news. My dad passed away on Saturday night, about 9:30, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 97, a tough old bird, lived a wonderful life and spent the last 5+ years living with Sue and I. He died in his sleep at the Estelle House Hospice in Ocala. All the arrangments have been made. At some time in Febuary we will have a Celebration of Life gathering at the Ocala Shrine Club, I'll be setting the date sometime this week, keep you all posted on the date and time.

Steve, I was so sorry to hear about your father. I've been through it myself and know that it is a tough time right now. However, I have learned over the years that, even though my parents are no longer with me in body, they remain with me in the memories I have of them and in the stories I pass on to their grandson and others. May God give you and your family strength during this time. Although things are difficult now and you feel your father is no longer with you, remember that as long as you keep him alive in your heart and in the memories that you share with others he is never truly gone.

Take care and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

that looks like the box I have:) A small nylon bag of moth balls are placed in the engine compartment of the car. Roy sprinkled a lot of them throughout the carport and in the flower bed next to the carport.

So sorry you will not be on the Pirate reunion cruise, you will be missed. I hope you are still planning on the Independence in Dec. 5, 2012.

Ginny.....you are correct. Some Pirates have the Indy booked for Dec. 5 (3nt) and Dec.8 (8nt).

I don't have any pets and there is a city ordinance that any pet must be on a leash. The planter close to the street does not have moth balls in it:);)

Hi Pirates....It's been awhile since I've been on the boards so had to search a bit to find the new thread but alas, here you are. Hope this post finds you all well and that your holidays were safe & happy!

I'm looking for lodging suggestions -- we are sailing out of Tampa on Jewel in February and need somewhere to stay 1 night (Feb 3). Prefer something reasonably priced and clean, hopefully with airport and/or port shuttle (we are not renting a car). For the life of me, I can't recall the place we previously stayed when sailing from Tampa. Sure would appreciate suggestions/comments.

We hope to join you all on a future cruise soon...just waiting to accumulate some extra vacation time that isn't already allocated to an event -- 2012 & 1H 2013 are already looking to be very busy years traveling to various family events and celebrations!

As always, thanks for your input. We wish you all a very healthy, happy & prosperous 2012!!

So good to hear from you, Helen. No, we have not cruised with Mimi since the last time we cruised with you. Roy & I are fine. I don't plan on cruising the big ships in the near future. Since I refuse to fly, we are limited to ships sailing out of Florida.

Holy crow everyone has been busy here! Like Freddie busines has picked up tremendously here as well. We just signed a contract for half a mil..only problem is the job is in Gainesville, GA!!!

Roger- Congrats! Joe- Happy belated B'day..Greg and Roblyn hope you all are feeling better..Kat hope you feel better too!

I actually took one ( except a day) whole week off between Christmas and New Years.I had a stay at home vacation and it was WONDERFUL! We spent a couple days camping, alot of hiking, bicycle riding, fishing and getting some projects done around our homes :) It was so relaxing..just sleeping in every day! It took a few days to get used to that, but boy did it ever get easy :)
I guess it was a taste of what retirement MAY feel like some day!

I am definitly looking forward to a great 2012...just think it's gonna be a real good year for Pirates!

Jan. 3 I had a couple good anniversaries...
It has been 14 years since I kicked the habit and one entire year of the gym :)

While at this time I can't say if I can make any of the planned cruises I would like to think perhaps last minute I may be able to join in...

Maybe we can do another mini meet in Orlando in April or May and get more Pirates together for a long week-end.......just saying.......

Actually we did some spring cleaning in the storage area. The kids made out like bandits with a bunch of new stuffed animals, etc...
The garden was retilled again by the munchkins.... Half of the plots are still bare...the other half has strawberry plants sitting under the pine needles for warmth...

Denise: Let us know what cruise you decide on. You never know if a few pirates may join you!

Hope Kat and Tara are having fun on their cruise right now...

If the brain is working, I will also bring the Pirates Caribbean Lounge sign, so I don't have to walk the plank!

I have been monitoring the cruising rates. It seems that they only offer a few cabins at the lower rate, and then it goes back up again.....The rates are getting out of hand, and we may be doing more land trips instead.

Just thought I'd drop by and say "hi". Don't have time to read to far back, things have been pretty busy here the past few weeks, finally have all the major issues pertaining to Dad squared away, a challenge at best.

We are going to hold a Celebration of Life, on Feb.25th, from 1 to 4pm, at the Ocala Shrine Club. There will be snacks and beverages, and I'm sure there will be plenty of stories. Anyone who wants to attend is welcome, let me know, I'll provide the address.

Sue and I are headed to the beach on the 22nd for a few nights, we need to get away and unwind some. Thought about a cruise, but decided on Ft. Myers Beach, where we got married in 03.

Hope all is well with everyone,,,

Howdy, all. And a Happy Friday to each of you. I have had a couple of people ask if there have been any plans for a mini-reunion in May. I was checking and the rates at Parc Corniche are $69 for the 1 BR suite and $89 for the 2 BR suite. Now, we just need to come up with a date.

My first thought was the weekend of 05/25/2012 - 05/27/2012. Since the 28th is Memorial Day, I figured more people would have the time off. However, since it is a holiday weekend, the crowds and roads may be a bit congested. Another choice would be the prior weekend which is 05/18/2012 - 05/20/2012. That may be a better choice since it is beween Memorial Day weekend and Mother's Day weekend when people may have plans with their families.

What does everyone else think? Would the weekend of the 18th work for everyone?

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!!!!

Okay. So the tentative date for the mini-meet will be the weekend of 05/18/2012 - 05/20/2012. The Parc Corniche website is www.parccorniche.com (http://www.parccornich.com)

Remember that if you wish to reserve a room near the pool be sure to request building #3. Remember that rooms in building 3 face both the pool and the parking lot depending on what side you have. Be sure to request pool view if available. If you have a room on the first floor you can walk right out on your patio and directly to the pool rather than having to go downstairs and walk around the building. Also, if you have stayed at the hotel they do have a 10% repeater's discount. If we have 10 rooms there is an additional group discount, but I doubt we'll have that many.

If you want to make a reservation. The number is 800-446-2721 or 407-239-7100.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again!!!

Hey, Dorothy! I am also a proud member of the Kindle Club now. My sister bought me a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I am having a ball with it. I was spending a fortune on books (even at the Costco discount rate) but now all I have to do is use my library card and download new books as they come out. Best of all...it's free.

I have also downloaded music from my computer (Thanks, Dave) as well as purchased a few albums. With the speakers I bought (only 29.99 at Costco), the sound is amazing!!! I love my Kindle!!!!!
Hi Fred....
Yeah, I am a proud Kindle owner, but I also have a room full of books to read also. A family member passes the books to me after she is done.

I have a Kindle 3g. Its a hand me down from my sister, who also upgraded to a Kindle Fire. She also sent a book cover that has a built in light that I can pull out for night reading...
Freddie, you mentioned speakers... Can you attach them to the kindle for sound? Can I do that with the Kindle 3G?

I have not had time to play with the Kindle yet. I did move one step forward though. I went to the library to get a new library card that I lost over 25 years ago...
Now, I can go to their web site and set up an account to download books. Is there a time limit on the books?
How does that work if the time is up? Does the text just go poof?
You can tell that I need alot of hands on...
Judy, have you downloaded a book from the library?
How did it go?

I am way behind in reading the posts....

Final payment has been made for our next cruise sailing on April 6, 2012, and its not soon enough...

Freddie, you mentioned speakers... Can you attach them to the kindle for sound? Can I do that with the Kindle 3G? If there is a plug for headphones on your Kindle then, yes, you can use the speakers. I know that they work in Ipods and even my cell phone so I'm sure they would work for yours. I purchased my speakers from Costco.com for $29.99. They are great. If you want to look them up, they are called Grandmax Tweakers. Here's what they look like:
http://content.costco.com/Images/Content/Product/565184.jpg

I have not had time to play with the Kindle yet. I did move one step forward though. I went to the library to get a new library card that I lost over 25 years ago...

How does that work if the time is up? Does the text just go poof? When you check out a book at the library, you can keep it for 21 days. And...yes...after the 21 days the book vanishes from your Kindle. I believe you are allowed to have 20 items checked out at a time.
You can tell that I need alot of hands on...

ereaderIQ takes you to the Amazon Kindle store for purchase/download. The book is yours forever. When you are finished with it you can keep it or send it to your "Archieve File". This archieve file is in the Amazon cloud attached to your account/your Kindle. You can retrieve it anytime you want to but it is not on your Kindle when it is archieved.

Personally, I would have probably done the same thing. It seems like you have moved from a balcony to a junior suite (if I understand the codes correctly). Your new location may not be as nice, but the Juinor Suites on the Radiance Class ships are great! I had one on Serenade and there was a huge bathroom and a very large walk-in closet. Gosh - the prices seem sky high on all the sailings right now! I've looked at tons of different ones and they are so freaking high!

We're looking to do something March 31st. thru April 7th. and just can't settle on anything yet. Got to wait and see what comes down after final payment. We are not going to the Grand Canyon because I could not get hotel reservations anywhere. You have got to book the GC two years in advance. It's crazy. Very few hotels. I think they have it that way on purpose. $200. a night for 2 double beds.

E-Beth, I'm not sure if you remember but Rick and I did a trip to the Grand Canyon not that long ago. We stayed in Williams, a town just outside of Grand Canyon Park. It was about a 45 minute drive away. Hotels in Williams are more plentiful and therefore more reasonably priced. Check it out. ;) We had a two room suite with a mini kitchen for less than $100 per nite. The suite could easily sleep 6, Indoor heated pool and jacuzzi too. Very clean and well run. We called by phone and made ressies there directly and got a multi night discount not available online anywhere i could find when i was researching. http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/williams/wlmgc/hoteldetail
Williams is a destination itself. Right in the middle of old Route 66 with some great old shops.... a fantastic town to visit when you get done looking at the big hole in the ground. LOL

Smilinheart, any JS on a Radiance class will be very nice. ;) IF 1100 or 1602 are available they would be my first choice.

Thanks - I just went and looked and that same room is $180. per night but something I will definetly think about. I just keep looking and looking and everything is so high, cruising included. What did you think of the Grand Canyon? How many days do you think you need to see and do it? Did you do the mule ride? What did you do? I was all ready to book the Grand Canyon Railroad package and my grumpy hubby said it was too much time on the train and not enough time at the canyon. My ideal trip would be to fly into PHX, do Sedona for one day, GC for two days, drive over and do the Hoover Dam tours for one day and then end up in Vegas for two days. The fees for the rental car are twice as much dropping off in a different city than you picked up. That trip was going to cost more than going on Allure or Oasis. I guess I judge all land vacations by what a cruise would cost . Another thing that bumped the price up was that Grummp pants wants two rooms everywhere we go or a two bedroom suite. Anyhow - my head is about to explode trying to plan something. He's not going to like anything I come up with. I found the trip of a lifetime on Groupon Scuba Diving in Belize for him but he thought 7 days of diving was too much diving. Okay - I can feel my blood pressure starting to rise. better go.

If anyone can think of something great for us to do during Spring Break that would have 2 bedrooms please let me know.

We spent 4 nights in Williams. In the mornings we would get an early breakfast, pack our backpacks and head to the GC. Each morning we hiked a different part of the rim. We wanted to take a helicopter tour but didn't try to reserve it ahead, something i would highly recommend for that or rafting or mule rides down. We had a great time just hiking at our own pace and having a picnic lunch at beautiful overlooks wherever we happened to be at the time. By late in the afternoons we were tired and left the park to go back to Williams for the evenings. IMHO, the train and bus tour people didn't get to see or do very much at all. Their time is very limited so they only visit several of the more touristy overlooks near the lodges. Having a car and going where and when you want is better. The day we left we went to Hoover Dam and toured that on our way to Vegas. In Vegas we stayed for 3 nites at the Desert Rose (also less than $100 per nite) http://www.shellhospitality.com/Desert-Rose-Resorte It's a lovely resort. One and Two bedroom condos a short walk from the strip. (highly recommended) Public transport means no car necessary once you check in. Shuttle service is even available to the airport. Both the hotel in Williams and the Condo in Vegas I arranged prior to leaving home by dealing directly with their management. They both gave us upgrades and lower rates than I could find anywhere online because we were staying multi nights at each location.

Majesty for Spring Break will remain high priced IMHO. It's also the worst time to cruise a short itinerary. Forget about trying to smuggle anything. ;) Expect a much younger crowd aboard with the associated heavy drinking. Not a situation I would knowingly take my teen kids into without some heavy supervision planned.

Honestly if I were choosing between both trips I would pick the trip out west. Spring is the best time to visit out there.

I have changed thoughts of flying into PHX and now am looking at LAS which opens up a ton of different ideas. I was looking at PHX when we were going to do the train. I can get a hotel for dirt cheap and a car rental for dirt cheap if we return to LAS. I also have a coupon from Southwest for 20% off our airfare which is great because it's high. All in all it is looking very doable. We would want to drive to the Canyon and stay overnight so if we were coming from Vegas, where do you think we should stay? Kingman? Do you know how far the Canyon is from Kingman? thanks so much for helping me with this! I agree about the Majesty during Spring Break, I was just trying to get us to Key West which we have never been to before. I am loving the Vegas idea. Hubby can gamble at night while me and the kids hit the shows. that will make him happy. Lots of tours to do and I will set up a helicopter tour. thanks again.

E-Beth

Pull up an Arizona map on internet. (Mapquest) Kingman is on the way to the GC from Vegas. Williams is closer to the GC south rim though. ;) The helicopter tours looked like a lot of fun. You won't regret making advance reservations for that. Also if you go to GC park south rim, visit the IMAX and see the show. It doesn't take that long and it's pretty cool. Just so you are aware, there are several different entrance locations to GC park, North Rim, South Rim, and at the Indian reservation closer to Vegas. At the Indian Reservation they have the Skywalk over the canyon. http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/ You can also take a helicopter tour from Vegas so if you really don't want to spend time at the South or North Rim hiking or seeing the IMAX and are just interested in flying over it or viewing it from a great vantage point. You can actually do all your touring right from Vegas with no overnights to visit the Canyon.

BTW, Denise has spent a lot of time in Vegas. She would be helpful i'm sure.

A flyover would be fine for me and Kelsey but the boys want the whole experience. I like the south rim but once again Paul thinks it's too touristy. What is closer to Vegas? Denise -where are you??

The Grand Canyon is on the top of our list as a must do trip! It even out ranks a cruise!

AAA has a package available that I would look at. Call them up and ask them to send you a brochure.

The package includes:

Round-trip Coach Class train travel from Williams, AZ to the Grand Canyon
Motorcoach rim tour of the South Rim with lunch
Overnight stay in Grand Canyon National Park at Maswik Lodge North
2 nights at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, AZ
2 breakfasts and 2 dinners

AAA Member Benefit:

You'll also receive a $20 Grand Canyon Railway gift shop certificate per adult and save 25% off the cost to upgrade to First Class train travel.

http://autoclubsouth.aaa.com/Travel/Grand_Canyon_railway.aspx

2nd Option:
Grand Canyon Railway also offers a package tour.

http://www.thetrain.com/

The motorcoach tour takes you to several of the lookout sites, but does not cover all of the sites. We did the tour, but then went back with our own car and visited many more areas in the park.

The AAA tour package offers a few more amenities if you were to compare it to the Grand Canyon Railway web site. Basically both are the same tour.

I would request a brochure from both AAA and the Grand Canyon web site. When you have time in between your flights, you can glance at the brochures. There are both tri-folds, so are easy to pack.

We have done the AAA tour package, and feel it was worth every single minute. The whole town of Williams gets into the western scene. You will be surprised. Many things happen that are not expected before and during the tour.

At the time we did the AAA Grand Canyon tour, we also did three nights in Las Vegas. This is a free overhead tram that goes to several hotels on the strip. It saves on those legs while walking on the strip enjoying all the hotels ambiance.

Do go on the Grand Canyon route. Your whole family will enjoy the scenery.

There comes a time when a woman just has to trust her husband... for example...

A wife comes home late at night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom.
From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two. She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she's done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink.

As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. "Hi Darling", he says, "Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say hello?

Hi EBeth-- this is very hard to pass up... a "golden" opportunity :-) I would really like to make this trip but can't commit at this time and don't want to hold you up. Aside from the still unsettled work junk , we had some unexpected health issues arise that are keeping me from committing right now. I'd love to put another sailing on my list but I just barely made it onboard for our Feb 4 Jewel cruise (packed 5 hrs before my flight) and thought we were going to have to cancel completely at the last minute and give up our GS upgrade on Jewel...I was sweating it. I'm looking into trip insurance for the April trip just in case because even that one is a little sketchy at the moment  I realized you can just never tell what might happen from one day to the next 'duh' .... and what a shame to loose all that cruise $ b/c I didn't get insurance.

I'll certainly stay in touch and will let you know if the situation changes. Keeping my fingers crossed that stuff gets settled soon - sure sounds like a fun trip.

Lulu is fine. It's just that during the colder, dry times she suffers from some severe itching so she had to go to the Vet to get a cortisone shot and some anti-biotics for a skin infection that pops up from time-to-time. I'm sure she'll be better soon! I hate so much to put her in the "Cone of Shame" but you have to do something to keep her from chewing herself raw. At least it's the "Comfy Cone" which is much nicer than those hard plastic E-Collars. This is the kind I'm talking about:

LuLu is a very pretty companion. I hope the itching stops soon.

Freddie, did you ever try that vest for the dogs that you asked about a while ago? We have a new fur baby that hates to ride in cars and i'm thinking about trying it.
