Just got off the Zaandam Yesterday and we took some pictures of the teen deck which is two decks above the back pool above the sky room and the new library/internet/coffee shop. The waterfall isn't running because we were just about ready to disembark and they had it turned off. It really is a nice place for teens to hang out. There are two shaded areas with tables and chairs on either side of the waterfall.

Really beautiful. The Oasis looks wonderful. Too bad it's just for the teens!

thanks for the photos - they really serve to get me excited -- will be on the Zaandam on Saturday -- I used to enjoy bringing my laptop down to the library and getting one of those desks that faced the ocean to use while I composed and read my e-mail. I notice that your photos show the light coming in from the windows but not what is up against them. Any chance any of those desks are left?

Yes the writing desks are still facing out the window in the back area. There is a large gaming table there that is inlaid marble which is really beautiful. There is also another table with a picture puzzle being worked on although not much was completed on our cruise. A few other tables have large crossword puzzles that you can work on with grease pencils. The whole area is well laid out and very comfortable.

Thank you Eileen G. I love sitting at those desks and watching the sea as I compose e-mail or whatever I am doing.

I am also glad to know that the inlaid gaming table is still there because it is beautiful. I noticed it in the pictures. It would be a loss to not have it there.

Nothing like a few pictures to get you excited. We leave on 4/16. Looks fun for the teens. There is one in our group so hope she will hook up with friends to enjoy the oasis. Once again thanks hope you enjoyed your cruise.

Thanks for the photos... They are of particular interest to me as these changes will have been made on ROTTERDAM by the time we sail in her in August.

Explorations looks like a very nice area. I have found that on most ships, the library is usually deserted (though those on the HAL ships are beautiful - I love those inlaid tables) so hopefully this will be a better use of space.

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing?

The "teen years" are the greatest? Why are they wasted on High School kids?"

Am I the only one that's thinking "Gilligans Island"
when looking at that new space??

No, you are not. That was my first thought. My second thought was miniature golf course!

My husband and I was on Zaandam on Feb. 26. I realize the teen area is for teens but we only had a few (under 5) on board and they didn't go to the osais area that I saw. Around the outside pool area on the at sea day their were no chairs available so what did we do, go to the teen area. I had just gotten comfortable and we were asked to leave. It is a little annoying knowing that you pay good money for a cruise and have nowhere to lay down and yet no one is using another area and you have to move because you are too old. Maybe on our next cruise on a different cruiseline we will have more luck.

Sorry, but I can't be sympathetic. Allowing you to spend time in the "teen only" area would mean also having to allow kids in an "adults only" area. Ruoles are rules, even when they inconvenience us.

I understand what you are saying about rules but from all that I have read most of Zandam's passengers are adults but yet they have made all of the new teen area and no teens, possible 5 that I saw. If no teens were enjoying the area and their were no adult seating around the pool available what could it have hurt? Also people were bringing upholstered chairs from the dining room to put around the pool. Thats sad considering all of the other space was being unused.

There are a lot of places to sit outside that are not either next to the pool or in the teen-only area, did you check those?

If you come to a red light, and there's no cross traffic, do you just drive thru?

If there are two handicapped parking spaces open, do you pull into one because you'll "only be two minutes"?

If there's a long line at the ladies room, but no males around - do you use the men's room?

Dave, I agree with you. However ... gotta be careful with your line of argument regarding "rules are rules." By that argument, if we see kids in the adult-only pool, does that mean we can go to the teen-only area??? ;)

I believe in rules (usually), I think the teen area should remain for teens -- HAL needs to encourage some of the younger folk to cruise or their clientele will die out --

But -- I admit -- On more than one occasion I have used the men's room when the line for the women's is too long and the men's room is empty

Hi missygirl,

We were on the 2/19 sailing of the Zaandam with our DS, aged 15. I am told this was the first 7 day voyage since the SOE upgrade. There were over 100 kids on board of all ages and the teens could not find space to lay out, etc because of all the non-teens(all older age groups) using the deck chairs, etc. The crew told them/us that as of the next voyage (yours) the "Teen Only" sign was going to be strictly enforced as HAL is trying to get more families with a variety of aged kids on their ships.

Nope, that's covered in the "two wrongs don't make a right" clause...
