I have looked on Joanie's cabin information site. I have looked at the deck plans. I have tried using search. I have read through a lot of Ruth's posts.
I am still not sure which inside cabins are best on the Ryndam.
I keep reading that large interior cabin sizes range from 182-293 sq ft. That is quite a big difference.
On the cruise I am looking at the only K cabin I am being offered is K565 (main deck).
L gives me the choice of several on Main deck (520, 521, 522 which are forward or 663, 666, 666 which are further aft).
This would be our first HAL inside cabin (we have been in one once before on RCI) and I am not sure which would be best for us.
It is a 22 day cruise so we would want a fair amount of room and storage space.
Any advice from the HAL experts? Ruth?

In my pre cruise critic days, we were in a category N (705) interior on the Ryndam for ten days. It was DH and our 10 month old baby and I in a cozy interior. Even with all three of us and all the baby gear (pack n play, stroller, car seat, etc) we managed just fine with floor space and storage. Don't get me wrong, it was still quite cozy, but we made it!
Our cabin was considered a standard interior and it was considerably larger than an interior I visited on RCI. After staying in an interior on RCI, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the size of any interior on HAL:)
Another nice touch that our interior had vs. RCI was that there was a fake window where the window should have been! It was basically just some lighting with some sheers/curtains over it, but it was nice to have it on during the day and off at night.
Enjoy 22 days on the Ryndam!

Thanks for that information.
We have been on the Ryndam before but that was 15 years ago.
We are thinking of taking an extra cruise and in order to justify it we are looking at a cheaper cabin.
I have a hold on an outside (D category) cabin and this cabin (K565). There is a large difference in price between the inside and the outside. The cabins look about the same size and I am having trouble justifying the extra cost just to have a window.
I am just concerned that I cannot find the size of the cabins other than a wide range of square feet.

We have been in K601 on Ryndam and it was a great inside cabin. Very quiet, low in the ship for less movement, etc. The hotel director had his family with him on this cruise and had them in K549 which is the inside that is somewhat sideways.

Don't pay a lot of attention to the sq ft ranges listed on the website. They are kind of out of whack.
Basicly, there are two sizes of insides (yes, the spa insides are a different breed; I'm not talking about them). There are "standard" insides, and "large" insides". The "large" insides are only slightly smaller than the outsides not on Lower Promenade; the "large" insides are larger than the outsides on Lower Promenade.
Okay, now that we have the basics down---there are two types of "large" insides. Most of them are configured the same way as the outside cabins across the passageway, and they are all the same size as each other. As you walk in, the bathroom is on one side, and the closets on the other. When you get to the main part of the cabin, there's a curtain that can be pulled from between the end of the closets and the desk. The desk is on one side, and there is a love seat w/adjustable table. There may be an end table. There will be an ottoman, and a chair.
The two beds/nightstands are at the far end.
This is what your cabin choice seems to be, so I won't go into a description of the "sideways" large insides.
The cabin will have a shower instead of a tub, which will give you a much larger vanity, since it goes in the area where the tub would be. The shower is quite large, with more flat area on which to stand than a tub allows, due to the rounded base to sides.
Your cabin choice is just aft, but near, the forward elevators/staircase. This is important on the S-class ships, because there is no mid-ship elevator; backtracking becomes a way of life here! The closer you are to the stairs/elevator, the less backtracking you have to do. I chose a K-on Main Deck, just forward of those elevators for my next (also Ryndam) cruise.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Ruth. I was hoping you would come and post here. I was just getting so confused.
I have mobility problems and have problems using a shower in a tub. This is one of the reasons we are looking at the K cabin. The other cabin we have on hold is D563 which is the modified outside which has a shower. I just don't think the difference in price is worth it if the only difference will be having a window.
I am glad to hear the shower is quite large as I need to use a shower stool.
I think we will give this a go. I am sure we will be very snug and cozy in this cabin. I just hope DH does not get claustrophobic. As I said before, we had an inside on RCI a few years ago and lived to tell the tale.
This cruise it is a choice between 11 days with a balcony or 22 days with an inside.
I am surprised that this was the last category K available for a cruise next October.

I'm curious, Ruth...as I trust your judgment implicitly...why Main Deck instead of Lower Promenade?
We're "graduating" next week from our usual verandah to an outside on the stern of the Maasdam/LP. Right near the largest verandah on the ship! I switched our outside on the Veendam in May to an inside. Quite a big savings.
I've always loved the verandahs, and the price isn't really that much more on the Vistas. But, it's significant on the smaller ships...and with this economy, I'm trying to be careful; besides, last year on the Maasdam, we hardly used the verandah....we were in a great location...BA at the stern/port side...but also right near the door to walk up to the SeaView Pool...so that won out!
I'm looking at the Ryndam for early next February...nice itinerary. Any suggestions on LP insides?

You're welcome, Carol. I think you will be happy with both the cabin, and the location. Especially since you have mobility problems. Your location has minimized the excess walking involved with backtracking. And you're really not that far from the great outdoors of Lower Promenade. Both sides! :p

My favorite insides on the S-class ships are the J-cabins on Lower Promenade. They are just aft of the atrium, and I take a cabin not too far down. I like to be mid-ship; I want to be close to the door to the outside, and close to the elevator to minimize walking.
When I booked my next cruise there were no J-cabins available, so I looked at the K-cabins. I found one of those nice "sideways" cabins that was close to the forward elevator---just where I want to be.
I don't want to walk aft at the end of the evening as I am in too much pain by then to take any extra steps.
My choice has nothing to do with desirabilty, or not, of the aft area---at least for others.

Ruth, are you saying we might be better off with J on Lower Promenade than our K on Main deck. There are 3 of these available on our cruise (352, 354 & 357). Should I change?
You sound like me when you say you do not want to walk too far.
Edited to say. I suppose we would be nearer outside deck with these J cabins?

Sorry Ruth
One more question. Are the J cabins on LP smaller than the K on Main? On the Deck Plan they look a bit smaller.

The J- cabins and the one you have chosen are essentially the same. The difference is location.
When on Lower Promenade you can get to/from muster drill easily. I do find that a plus---especially the "getting back" part, as I don't have to wait for an elevator before I can sit again.
The thing for you to consider is how far the K-cabin you have chosen, and the J-cabins available, are from the forward staircase/elevator bank, because frequently you will have to walk forward, then head back on whatever deck you went to.
If they are the same distance, then take a look at price difference vs convenience of being on Lower Promenade.

Except for the "sideways" cabins, and the spa cabins, the "large" insides are the same everywhere. (go ahead, someone find one obscure cabin and prove me wrong. it's possible, but it will be an obscure cabin, for sure.)

The K cabin is nearer the elevators but I think DH may prefer the J cabin as he can get to an outside deck more easily - he does love his fresh air and to see where we are and to watch coming into port. We need to make a decision tomorrow when the HAL office here returns to work.
Thank you so much for your help.

English in Spain, This tip won't help you because this cabin has a bath tub with a shower. The cabin I have in mind is L500 and is found on all "S" class ships. The cabin is all the way forward on port side main deck. L500 is much larger than a standard inside. The closets are on the right as you enter the door and the bath is at the end of the closets instead directly across from the closets. As stated before, there is a bathtub. The advantage to this arrangement is you feel you are not getting dressed in a hallway. The center of the cabin is larger and there is a short couch. We have had this cabin twice on the Stattendam and loved it. Two short comings do however do exist. First it is all the way forward so their is more walking. The second is when arriving in port their is some equipment noise from lowering anchor. For some people another problem is since the cabin is forward it is subject to rocking from the sea. For me it is great it tends to rock me to sleep. It is great.

I chose 778 on A deck last summer when I booked the Ryndam sailing on Sun. for it's location midship and so am happy to hear it's large enough.
Don't know if OP is aware but to mini-coolers aka mini-fridges in the cabin on Ryndam for inside or ocean view cabins so I ordered one through ship services for $2/day purely for convenience. :)

Yes, I was aware there is not a cooler in the cabin. I am not sure if we will need one as long as we have an ice bucket.
If we order one, where do they put it? Is there room for it?

It goes in the kneehole under the desk---the place where you would be sitting when you do your make-up. No, imo there isn't room for it.
It's also possible to put it up on the desk, but then you lose half your desk space. It also takes up the only available electric outlet.
If you don't need it, don't get it.

Thanks for the advice.
I think we are going to go for J352 on Lower Promenade.
DH says he prefers the sound of this to K on Main deck. It will not be far for him to go outside. He is worried about feeling claustrophobic. We usually have a balcony but have decided to do a 22 night cruise in an inside for the same price as 11 nights in a balcony cabin.
We are having to cancel our cruise in April (Caribbean & TA) as I have been advised not to do the long flight :(.
We are replacing it with 22 nights on the Ryndam in October from Barcelona (either a short flight or we can drive to there).

Nice choice. I think you will be very happy with the cabin itself. As long as it's not too much of a walk to the elevators for you, then this will do very well.
You might find that this is a new option for you on future cruises!
