View Full Version : Dressing Up the Dinning Room on Formal Night?

On the last two cruises we took with HAL I thought the chair covers they used would have been better left off. They were so wrinkled and loose fitting that the impression HAL was trying for of elegance was not achieved.
We saw the dining room stewards bringing the covers in to put on the chairs and everyone carried a big tangled load and plopped them down on the floor to separate out. I can imagine storage space could be a problem so maybe just not doing it would be a better choice. I liked the overall appearance of the dining room and thought it was very attractive and looked better with the chairs uncovered.
Did anyone else have the same feeling?

I've got to agree that the O'dam's DR looked better, and more elegant, without them...

I also agree. The colorful appearance of the dining room takes on a bland appearance with all the white coverings. If they are to use them, let's have them crisply starched and ironed.

I love the look, especially when the decorations are complete on the night of the Black and White Ball.
I do agree, though, that they should be pressed once in a while.

When/what is the black & white ball - is it on ALL HA ships on every cruise. We're going on Oosterdam next week - first time on HA. Please Help! I haven't seen anything about this!

The B&W ball is usually only on longer than 10 day cruises. It has been in the crows Nest on cruises we have been on with all of the officers there to dance with the guests........jean

Not to worry, no B&W ball on the O'dam in the Mexican Riviera...

I remeber when we were on the Oosterdam last May, I thought the chair covers were so wrinkled that it made it look tacky. When we were on the Ryndam in November they did not cover the chairs on the last formal night. Now the chairs were covered the formal night on the Westerdam, they were not as wrinkled as the Oosterdam but they were also not neatly pressed.

You know, I had forgotten all about it, but they did not cover them on Ryndam last week.

Wonder why some Cruises cover them and some don't? From your picture Lisa, I think it looks really tacky.

Forgot to mention that the Hotel Managers and other Key personnel do read our posts and do listen to recommendations.

When we cruised in May 04 - wrinkled white covers.....when we sailed on the Z in November 04 - no wrinkled white covers. We were told they did away with them. I guess they finally figured out they can't keep them neatly ironed and they are better off just leaving them off.

The chair covers would be nice to look at if they were pressed. On the last number of cruises that we have been on, they weren't pressed and looked terrible.
When we did back-to-back cruises on the Ryndam in 2003, the chairs were not covered for the final fornal night.
