This is my first post on CC, so I hope I'm doing it correctly.
Can any recent visitor to HMC tell me if all the cabanas are wooden now? When we visited last summer, a few had canvas sides. Specifically, I'm curious about the purple cabana. After the hurricane did HAL convert the canvas sided cabanas to wood? Thank you.

It looked like wood to me in January. Here's a pic of the Purple cabana on January 29, 2005.

Thank you for being so quick in your help. We have the sky blue for our 7/23 cruise, same cabana as we had last summer. But we had to book the purple for our 7/16 and I was concerned it wouldn't be as nice.

We were just there and they all looked wooden.
However, not all have their air conditioning properly. There was a couple on our first segment who had to switch cabanas from what they had booked on line. The husband had a medical condition and can't be out in the sun or heat for a long time. The cabana that they had booked didn't have the air conditioning working so the shore excursion assigned them to another one. Not all of the cabanas were booked for either of our segments.

there are 8 of us going in Jan 2012 we are thinking about getting a Cabana the carnival site says limit 4 but we were wondering what the restrictions are if any in the party, as some of our party may be doing other excursions on HMC and we just wanted to use a cabana as home base for all of us as we all will be doing our own thing

Opening a 6 year old thread risks getting old info. Appreciate that you searched before you posted, tho!:D
If you come over to the Private Islands board, here:
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=406
you will find tons of info, including pics and video of each cabana. There are two or three huge threads with great info.
The limit is 4. There is a charge for any above that. 1 above might go un-noticed, but 4 above should be noticed.

HAL's cabanas are $299 -- that is for 4 people.
There is an extra charge of $45 per person.

We had one last Oct.. and there were 3 of us.. I have to say it would be very easy to just have your extra 4 people hang out right in front of your cabana, and you all come , and go.. I honestly don't think anyone would say anything with there being more than 4 in there at a time.. In fact we had one fairly far down the beach..and it was nice , and secluded.

You could get two clamshells right in front, and as long as there isn't more than maybe 5 at a time in the cabana I doubt anyone would care. The food and drinks are measured for just four people though, and I think that's the reason why there's an extra charge for extra people.

thanks for feed back we went ahead and booked one and figure we will tell them 4 we have 3 other people going one dropped out of the cruise so now we are seven so I do not think it will much matter how many are going to use it anyway, as you said the idea is probably the count for drinks and snacks, so I am not even going to worry about it and just hope the other 4 people will chip in on the price as my daughter and her friend and I rented it for us, ....... the rest of the party did not want to rent one but I am sure they will be using ours though out the day so I am hoping they will think 30.00 each will be worth it if not------ not a big deal, we were planning on renting it for the 3 of us anyway, I am just hoping that we will get to go to the island every time we have down a Bahama cruise we never got off the ships to go to the island due to bad weather or choppy water 3 times now!! so pray that the 4th will be the charm!!!!
