Some time ago, there was an announcement about refurbishing the fleet. New bedding, tvs, etc. Just booked a Veendam cruise. Anyone know it this ship has been upgraded?

Hi CLapple.
I remember meeting you on some dam ship, Statendam?
Anyway some improvements have been made on Veendam as I understand, but she won't go through the complete renovation until January 2006. We are on November 2005. When are you booked?

Crusinjudy,
After searching the board, I discovered the upgrade program is called SOE. That allowed me to find the answer, on the HAL web page.
Don't remember want cruise we met on. Did the NYC-Amsterdan-NYC last summer. Have also been on the Statendam a couple times.
We are taking a repo cruise, May 2, from San Diego to Vancouver.
Tried a couple other cruise lines, since the Rotterdam cruise. Think I will be glad to get back to HAL.

DW and mother-in-law was on Veendam back in January. They have already changed the beds and bed spreads. She said the beds are very, very comfortable. The old 4" thick mattress is gone. These are like being at home. Many of the SOE things don't matter much to me, but a nice bed is a good thing.:)

CLapple: Glad to hear that my wife and I won't be alone on Veendam on the San Diego to Vancouver cruise! Started a thread on that trip: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=137357 Maybe we can have our own sailaway party! Love to get your reccomendations as to excursions, especially Vancouver, as we will be there until Tuesday.
Before the cruise, if time permits, I recommend that that you visit the former USS Midway Aircraft Carrier museum, just a block or so down the Embarcadero from the Cruise Ship Terminal. It has become the single most popular tourist attraction in San Diego.
