I just made final payment for our trip and asked what is the deal if the price goes down. You can get a OBC, upgrade or nothing. It's on a case by case basis up to the revenu manager.

That's correct.
We've read here some people get an upgrade, some a OBC and some get nothing.
There are probably a great many variables involved in who and why.

Let us know if your price goes down on your cruise and what happens when you contact HAL as to what they will do for you.

This happened to me last weekend...the fare had dropped, and when i called HAL they upgraded us to the category that was now at the price we paid.
I was very satisfied with their response, and i was on the phone with them for about 5-6 minutes

When I sent an email after a price drop requesting a change from a VH guarantee to a VE guarantee at no change in price the reply was a form-letter "Sorry". But about 2 hours later that change was done! :D

I have asked for OBC for the price difference, and receive the upgrade, but stll Guarantee.
But I have asked one more time for specific cabin in even higher category and got it.
I think it is a matter of luck.
Good luck to everybody.

This has happened to me before and like the OP, we got an upgrade. The chances of OBC are very slim. By all means, call them (or your TA) up!

I get easily confused :) - is final payment typically 60 or 75 days out?

My final payment date came and went a couple of days ago, and last evening I noticed the price on my stateroom category dropped by $200.00 PP. I dropped my PCC a note and asked the question. He got back with me today, and the best he could do was another $50.00 OBC. That will make $350.00 in OBC. However, since he booked this cruise I've had several reductions from the initial cost $3699.00 PP down to $2599.00. Am I complaining??? I think not!:D

We just made the final payment for ours....through our TA. So with 90-days to go, do I watch HAL's site and see if the price drops for our cruise/rooms and if it does, do I call HAL or I do I have to go through our TA? I'm all for an upgrade or more OBC!

Yes, by all means keep watch. And if you do see a drop, go through your TA, as that is the person in charge of your booking.
Oh, and keep your fingers crossed, as there is no requirement for HAL to do anything for you after final payment.
Good luck.

Ruth is absolutely correct. After final payment, they owe you nothing. Just call up and see what you can get. We all face the decision as to when to book a cruise. If a bargain price is essential, wait until after final payment is made. Just realize, however, a ship can book up or all the acceptable cabins can be sold out before you buy. Also, for some cruises the price will go UP after final payment - we have seen it happen.

After you purchase anything else (car, clothes, food, whatever) and the price goes down does the merchant give you anything? Absolutely not. IMO a cruise line isn't ethically obligated to give a passenger anything at all after the price goes down, and the fact that they do it anyway is an indication of their being extremely passenger friendly. If they have higher classified cabins that are unbooked that they can upgrade someone to, this is something they can do without incurring any expense for the cruise line, so why not do it?
Now, that being said, if they want to give me an upgrade or OBC I'll take it and be thankful for it; but I don't believe they're obligated to do it.

I don't think they are obligated either...but if it could happen and they would offer something, it doesn't hurt to ask. A lot of retailers - like Best Buy or Lowe's for example. If it goes on sale in x amount of time, or you find it cheaper elsewhere, they will refund you the difference....or in some cases they will refund you plus x %.

^ Quoted for truth.
Once the pay date comes and goes, the cabin price is the last thing on my mind and I'm not going to sweat them for anything. They listed a price, I agreed to it, and the deal is done.
Cabin upgrade offer? I would $h!t kittens if they moved us from our cabin! We pick our cabin based on Karen's slight chance to suffer from motion sickness, the areas around us (no common rooms above/below), and how easily we can get to different points on the boat. Folks RAVE about the aft cabins, I hate 'em as I'm only seeing the past and there is too much prop wash. We're where we want to be, we have a balcony, no obstructions in any direction, close proximity to the wi-fi... we're staying put.
OBC? I'd take that, but I'm not going to ask for it. By the time final payment is due I am so AMPED that you could lay bare wires on me and I'd power the entire HAL fleet, money is the last thing on my mind! :D

My sentiments exactly. The cruiseline lowers the price to fill the ship. I do not feel entitled to anything and I am too proud to waste my TA's time asking for anything. In the scheme of things, a small OBC isn't going to change my life/bank account in anyway. I just don't think about it.

After reading all the comments here, when I noticed that our rate did go down by $50 per person, I called HAL. The girl was so friendly and helpful, immediately bumped us up to a VA from a VF, which is fine with me. She said to keep watching and if the price goes down again, to call back. No OBC, but it's only a short cruise and I know Mum will be happier with the better balcony than any credit.

Today I noticed a price drop in my VH Gty and it is after final payment. I called customer service at my TA's office (she was not in) and they managed to get HAL to give me $50 OBC. I got a previous price drop prior to final payment. Also, my TA gave me an OBC when I booked. All in all I believe HAL has been very fair.

On original booking, the price had gone up. PCC "Do you really want to do this?" I am pressing the button. I said "yes". The price dropped $800! GREAT!!!
PCC also gave us a $250 (22 day Amazon) OBC.
When we paid the final payment the $250 was there in August.
A month out I sent broker docs confirming current stock ownership to HAL.
PCC emailed me back stating an $ 250 SHB credit was applied for both of us for a total of $500. This I new was incorrect. One per cabin.
Some how my account then showed only $250. I called and said "What happened to my original OBC?" PCC said that was the original OBC was linked to my Mariner #. I don't think so. I was upset and let him know it. His original $250 and my SHB $250 should have been $500.
Oh well...
When we boarded we were told we now had a new cabin...the up grade fairy had found us.
So who knows how things work???
Just relax...some better, but all cruises GOOD! :)
