Can one purchase a bottle or two of wine (not hard liquor) while off the ship and bring it back on board for consumption in the room? I know you can at the start of the cruise but don't believe I've seen this addressed.

I do know that at Grand Caymen, if you buy Totoga Rum, it is delivered to your ship and to your state room on the final nite. By the way, those Tortuga rum cakes are outstanding.

You can buy as many bottles of wine ashore as you want for in-cabin use. But if you take it to the dining room and you don't have a friendly wine steward, you will be charged anywhere from $10 - $15 corkage fee - depends on ship.

Here's a quote from HAL's Liquor Policy page on their website:
"Planning & Advice:
On-board Policies
Bringing Alcoholic Beverages Onboard
Except for wine and champagne, alcoholic beverages purchased in the vessel's shops or otherwise brought on the ship cannot be consumed on the ship. Bottles and other containers will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage."
Here's a link to HAL's "On-board policies" page: http://www.hollandamerica.com/guests/category.do?category=obpolicies&topic=alcohol (http://www.hollandamerica.com/guests/category.do?category=obpolicies&topic=alcohol)
You might want to print out the alcohol policies page from HAL's website and bring it with you.

AHHH - rum cakes.
We brought back a couple of the small chocolate rum cakes. Ate one at the hotel the night before we flew home.
