We are all set to sail out of SAN DIEGO next month and need a good hotel for around $100 a night.

I already have booked the HAMPTON INN on PACIFIC AVE., but i am concerned about the rail road noise, i called them and they said they cannot guarentee that i will be able to get a room in the front of the hotel.

I checked on the HOLIDAY INN ON THE BAY and they are booked up, by the way the dates i want to go are APRIL 13 through APRIL 15.

My sister and her handicap daughter are going with us, so i guess what i am trying to say is we need a hotel etc. that is not ot expensive and a resturant that is close and parking is free.

I live in LAS VEGAS and it seems like every hotel in SAN DIEGO charges to park and that just grinds me.

Is there any hotel outside of SAN DIEGO that we could stay at , say by the SAN DIEGO WILD LIFE PARK that would fit ours needs ,i planned on going two nights early before the cruise but am open to any suggestions.

THANK YOU

I just booked at the Great Western Seven Seas and they said I could park free for a week. It is a few miles from port and they have a free shuttle. It's located on Hotel Circle Dr. I figure it's probably like a Days Inn.
Good luck, Jill

Jim-While visiting a client in the area I have stayed several times at Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee which is east of San Diego. It is very quiet, parking is free, and there is a restaurant on the premises and others nearby. I believe their rates are $79 during the week and $89 on the weekends. The place is not fancy, but the rooms are large and very clean and it is located in a residential area. Probably a 20-30 minute drive to the pier. Their number is 800.831.6757.

How about the Dana Inn on Mission Bay? They are on Expedia for a 21 day advance special of $93 for Wed and Thurs and $128 on Friday. My girlfriend stayed there about a year ago and it was decent and centrally located. I would think if you are coming to San Diego you would want to be near some of the tourist areas, like Sea World, the Zoo, Old Town, Downtown, Pt. Loma lighthouse. I don't know if there's a charge to leave your car while you are on the cruise though.

The wild animal park is almost an hour north of the port. There really is nowhere to stay out there. You'd be better off staying closer to town and then making a day trip (It will take all day!) out of the Wild Animal Park.

Options are to look in the Hotel Circle Area in Mission Valley. There are reasonable rates there. Another choice may be to try the Mission Bay area. You may be able to get a decent rate at one of the older properties. This is a high tourist season in San Diego, and there isn't alot for 100 a night. Both of these areas are withing 15 minutes of the pier and centrally located to attractions such as Balboa Park, Gaslamp District, etc.

San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina
This one is my favorite, it could be abit pricey but for the looks its awesome
Check out the killer pool and waterfall its right next to Sea Port Villiage and about 1 mile from the Cruise Terminal.

I second the Best Western Seven Seas. It's a nice location, has a restaurant on site and close to Fashion Valley Mall and several more great restaurant choices. A short drive in the other direction is Old Town, which is a great place to shop/eat/visit. Many of the motels/hotels on Hotel Circle have restaurants on site and the reasonable cost and location make the area a great choice. Probably can't go wrong with any of them. I'd try to do an Expedia type search specifying "Mission Valley" or "Hotel Circle" zip code 92108. One of my favorites in Kings Inn. 1-800-78KINGS. Have breakfast at Adams Steak and Eggs down the street :-)

Enjoy San Diego and your cruise!

If you're coming to San Diego stay in the downtown area. It's beautiful and so much to do. Don't go out into the outskirts. If the Holiday Inn is full, try Embassy Suites, the Marriot, Hampton Inn, Hilton or the Hyatt (all in the Gaslamp Quarter.) All are close by and in the middle of lots of things to do. Mission Valley has few--if any aesthicsand you'll have to drive to everything!
I've heard that some cruisers have got great rates at the Marriot,Hyatt, by using priceline.
Go to sandiegohotels.com and click on downtown. It will bring up lots of options.
Have a great time here, we have a lovely city.

I always reccomend the Sheraton Harbor Island as another great place to stay. Very close to the pier, beautiful pools and very decent food in the bar for reasonable prices.

I know that I have seen lots of cruise ship passengers there, esp. HAL. THere often seems to be a HAL rep walking around on departure days. This may be the hotel HAL uses for its packages.

We have a boat in the marina there, and spend lots of time at hte hotel. It is more than 100 a night, but still a great place.

There are several places close to the pier that you can probably get for under $100. There is the Hampton, like you said. There are two Motel 6's, one a couple of blocks up the hill and away from the train noise. There is Le Pensione in Little Italy and a new place called The Little Italy Inn (has a website). I would go with the Hampton Inn. I live two blocks from there and most of the places down here, if you close your windows, you can't hear the trains. I might add, we have gotten used to it, but I don't think you will in one night, but it is so convenient and has the best price--go for it. Hey, you have an entire vacation to relax and sleep.
