DH and I are taking our first HAL cruise this summer (Canada/NE on Maasdam). We sailed Princess last summer and took part in a meal called the Chef's Table. It was a special meal for just 10 of us prepared by the executive chef and was a big event that included a tour of the galley and interaction with the executive chef and his sous chefs. It was the highlight of our cruise. Does HAL offer anything similar?

HAL does a kitchen tour routinely on the cruises...sometimes a couple per cruise.
They have a 'Dine with the Chef' night once per cruise. The ones we've been to have been in the Culinary Arts Centre with the Executive Chef preparing the meal for up to 14 passengers. We book once on board through the Pinnacle Grill but I think you can book at the front desk as well. I haven't seen anywhere that you can book it before you get on board, however. Our first stop after dropping our bags in our room is always the Pinnacle Grill to book the Sommelier Dinner and the Dine with the Chef.:)

Not All ships have the Chef's Special Dinner -- not all Itineraries have this special dinner. There is no tour of the galley during this dinner.
Some ships have the Sommelier's Dinner instead -- not quite the same.
You really have to go to the Pinnacle Grill to inquire about this.

Thanks so much for the replies! We'll check with the Pinnacle Grill when we board.

Thanks for asking this question...I was a little confused about this as well.
Now I know to check at the Pinnacle Grill as soon as we get on board to see which specialty dining will be offered on our cruise.

Sometimes they will already have the menus printed out so that you can see if you really like the food that is being prepared for that evening.
