View Full Version : What is HAL's usual deposit percentage?

I can't seem to find it anywhere on their website. The sailing I'm interested in wouldn't be part of any special "reduced deposit" offer -- either through sales or onboard booking, so I'm referring to regular, run-of-the-mill bookings.

For us (3 people in a cabin) it worked out to a little under 20% (the deposit amount is a round number but the cruise price isn't-- not clear to me how they came up with the deposit amount).

HAL does not base their deposit in a percent like Princess and Disney. Actually they are really the only cruise lines that doe that. If you are not booking when they are having a reduced deposit Sale and or using a Future Cruise deposit a normal 7 day cruise is $350 per person. When they do their reduced deposit it becomes $100 PP Of course it is more for longer voyages.

The reason I'm asking is that an online agency I'm thinking of going with (their quote was about $600 cheaper than HAL's website) told me that a $600 deposit would be required for an 11-day Southern Caribbean sailing on which I'd be going solo. Does that sound about right? It does come out to slightly under 20% in my case.

The deposit for our upcoming 11-day on the Maasdam was $600 pp, which is 49.95% of the fare including fees and taxes.

Okay, so then $600 per person for an 11-day Caribbean sailing is normal. Thanks, John!

Yes the $600 PP is correct for that sailing. Different agencies have different times when HAL allows them to have Reduced Deposit Sales. You may call one agency and they do not have it and called another and they do and then call back the 2nd that had it a few days later and have missed the time frame. It can be one week or sometimes two weeks that they have this.

As others have posted, it varies. We booked our upcoming 15 day, R/T Hawaii with a TA, Aug. 9, 2010,. The special , among other offerings, was a reduced deposit of $600, total........both of us. Never did see this good of and offer. :)

Just make sure they don't charge a cancellation or nonrefundable booking fee!

Since my previous agency did charge a $50 cancellation fee (which I thankfully never had to be assessed), I already did that, and was assured that there were no additional fees from their agency.
