I haven't been posting/lurking here as much as I used to due to a heavy work and travel schedule. If this question has already been asked and answered a hundred times, please don't beat me with a verbal rubber hose. :D
I noticed there aren't any 14-day Alaskan cruises on HAL's 2013 schedule. I thought they were very popular. What's the deal?

Roz, I think there will be just be patient :D If you notice the Amsterdam is starting a very late Panama Canal May 1st that will end in Vancouver. They currently are not showing her for any voyages after that cruise. I suspect in the next few weeks you will see that they have her doing the 14 day cruises like she is doing this year ;)

Oh Roz, I would never do that :D
Yeah HAL is just slow in getting out some the itineraries, really not sure why

I did some poking around, and even though they're not yet posted, I can see where HAL is going to take the tail end of some of those Panama Canal cruises and make them into Pacific Northwest or Pacific Coastal cruises, similar to what we're doing in May - San Diego to Vancouver. I love those 3-5 day cruises. Gives me a chance to book a deluxe suite and experience luxury for a few days.

That is right Roz, you are going to be with us for the Zuiderdam :) Are you staying on for Alaska? I only booked the SY Superior Verandah Suite for the 4 day because that is what I booked for Alaska. I selected a cabin number for the 7 day Alaska but of course it was guarantee for the 4 day. I normally check do not upgrade when I select a cabin but this time I did not because I am hoping they can find us a cabin that we can be in for the full 11 days ;)
For information for anyone that is interested if you need a Handicapped cabin when all the cabins show Guarantee only HAL will work with you and make an exception and will assign a H/C.

I sure hope they do this one again in 2013. I would like to do that one again some day.

Himself, yes they will be doing this in 2013 :) It actually is a great way to start an Alaska cruise and reducing the cost of air. Well at least for me :D The flight to San Diego is really cheap, as well as those 4 days on the ship and I get a longer cruise ;)

This 14 day cruise on the Amsterdam was by far the BEST Alaskan cruise I have ever been on. I understand this cruise will no longer do the "Inside Passage" and my source indicates it burns too much fuel and so I understand. But it is a great cruise. I would rather drop Tracy Arm and do Glacier Bay and I would rather drop Icy Strait and do Skagaway. I would not change a thing after the ship leaves Anchorage.

I concur. We didn't book a 14-day for 2012 because we were hoping just maybe Skagway would be added back in 2013.

I had thought that the 14 day cruise out of Seattle was a popular itinery but it seems to have been dropped for 2013. Depending on the bookings you may be able to get a 14 day back to back out of Vancouver, but these only come up if bookings are light. We did it a few years back on the Zaandam and enjoyed it.

Lisa,
I'm just doing the SD to Vancouver run. Wish I had the time to tag on Alaska. The day we get off in Vancouver, I'm taking a shuttle down to Seattle and flying home from there. I can use my SW Rapid Rewards ticket from Seattle, as opposed to the expensive international flight from Vancouver back to TN.

I would be shocked if HAL didn't offer this again in 2013. In fact, I'm a bit surprised they don't add a ship or use a larger vessel as demand absolutely seems to be there.
Part of the delay may be that Amsterdam tends to get chartered for a few weeks mid-summer and perhaps they are hoping to nail down the charter contracts before opening summer 2013 for booking. I know there are many customers HAL upset by yanking their cruise out from under them this year.
We would LOVE to do this 14 day cruise, maybe in 2013 or 14?

The Amsterdam schedule for Alaska 2013 is now on the HAL website. It does not include 14 day cruises.

If it was a financial success, they would do it again. Do you want them to do something that isn't successful?

It is true that HAL dropped the 14 day Itinerary on the Amsterdam for Alaska -- sales for this year are down. And that is due to increased prices of this cruise.

This is sad...Have been trying to get DH to fly to Seattle this year & take that Amsterdam cruise, but he refuses to do it because of his long legs, as he's very uncomfortable in tourist seats..
He was spoiled when I worked in the airline business & didn't have to pay.. Guess I should check out the first class fare & see what I can do to convince him not to leave any $$$ to the kids..They will get our abode when we leave this planet..

The 14 day Alaskan Cruise will not happen in 2013. The shorter 7 day cruises are much more profitable, I am told and I think the rising fuel costs figure into this. So if any one wants this great cruise you had better go this year.

Wow, that is sure some interesting news! :(
Glad we booked the 2-week Amsterdam cruise this year. We set sail on June 1. Our original booking was for the May 17 sailing, but some company chartered the Amsterdam, and we were "bumped", with our consent, to the June 1 date.

We too love the 14 day Alaskan cruise. We had it booked this summer, then dropped it, and when I discovered it was not available in 2013, we rebooked it at quite an increase in price. Oh well. It is a fabulous itinerary and it is unfortunate HAL had to drop it.

I too am so sad about HAL dropping this itinerary. I was fortunate enough to sail on it twice - May 31, 2010 and Aug. 5, 2011, so I got to experience it and enjoy it two times. I know we could do a back to back on different ships, but a majority of the ports would be repeated and I'm just not interested in that. Oh well....still....was hoping to do it again in the future - just can't get enough of the wonderful itinerary. :(Who knows? Maybe it will come back again....someday.....

I hope it does come back some day. It was sure a wonderful cruise with some wonderful ports of call. Anchorage, Homer and Kodiak are three memorable stops that I never had before. My source was a "Future Cruise Consultant" on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

We did this cruise June 2011 and fell in love with it. So much so that we were only home a few days and we booked it again for this summer. Sure glad we did.

Himself,
Thank you for posting this, as I was the original poster asking the question. I'm really disappointed, and no other cruise line offers anything similar. Well, at least I can move on. I was saving my $100 deposit certificate for this cruise, so now I can look for something else.
