northern europe July 20th anyone going?????

hi, george and pauline. glad to hear others will be there too. i wrote to laura at red october and she sent me a three day itinerary as well as evening things. since its pages long perhaps I can send it to you via regular e-mail. it includes prices pp depending on # in people in the group. we prefer sdmall rather than large bus groups.. we haven't looked into other city excursions yet. have you been on oceania before this trip? it's our first. look forward to hearing from you. judy and peter

We have sailed on this ship in May 2001 when it was owned by Renaissance Cruise line on a 16 day cruise from Barcelona to Dover. We haven't cruised on Oceania yet, but receive frequent email from them because of the prior cruise and have also heard several good reports about them as well. Where will you be leaving from in the U.S. We will be flying out of Boston. It would be nice to receive the itinerary that Red October provided to you. There are 4 of us who will be on the Dover to Stockholm Regatta Cruise July 20 and have also emailed with Red October about a tour in St Petersburg. They told us that unless we have 10 we can't get into the Gold Rooms at the Hermatage. Let me know what you have discovered regarding this tour group. We too have a 3 page quote from them.

We used Red October last year and they did a great job. It is true that you need a party of 10 to get in the Gold Room at the Hermitage. Since my wife and I had been there before and our group was only 8 we did not see the Gold Room but it was no big deal to us having been there before. The Red October guide was very flexible and allowed us to customize our visits. All 8 of us were very happy with the tours with red october and would highly recommend them to anyone.

We used Red October on our Regatta Baltic Cruise in 2003 and had two wonderful days with them. We had six in our van and Laura combined us with another Red October group at the Hermitage to see the Gold Room. If you can't see it, don't despair as there is so much to see at the Hermitage. This was our second time at the Hermitage. It would take months to see it all. We also had a wonderful experience having lunch with a Russian family. They provided bottled water with our lunch since everyone is afraid of getting sick. Our guide was our interpreter. We have not heard of anyone not enjoying their tour with RO and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

For reference, DenRus said we could see the Gold Room in the Hermitage with less than 10 people. Either they have other arrangements or can combine groups, don't know which- but they said a group of 6 was no problem.
