Hi Everyone,

Looking forward to ordering room service. Have never done this on my previous Celebrity cruises. First time on Maasdam-April 21, 2005. What is the deadline for ordering room service for the next day?

Also, staying in a cat B verandah suite- forward. Any info on this location.Movement of ship, noise, etc.???

Thanks for all of your reviews on this ship. Looking forward to a great cruise! I will certainly send my reviews when we return for all you newbies to Maasdam. I know I enjoyed reading all the messages here.

Thanks Again

IF you want room service breakfast, there are door menus in your cabin that you may put out when you go to bed, or by 2am. Wefrequently did this but you may also call in the morning if you want something beside what is on the small door card.

You may order room service 24/7, but if you want the dinner that is served in the dining room, you need to call within the first 30 minutes of serving at first seating. You may specify what time you'd like it delivered.

How far forward? I assume you're on the veranda deck. If you are waaaayyy up front you may experience motion. The Atlantic coming out of Norfolk can be rough.

We usually choose midships but we've been in B6208 on the Rotterdam and were very comfortable. (aft by aft elevators). We've never sailed out of Norfolk but I read this board and the consensus is rough.
Hope this helps.

The Maasdam, like many HAL ships, has a fairly blunt prow, and in my opinion does not ride well in rough water. She does ride fine in calm waters, however.

Forward cabins are more prone to motion in rising/following seas than midships cabins.

The Maasdam, and her sisters, sorely lack a midships elevator bank, which was corrected in the follow-on ships.

Isn't it wonderful we have so many choices?

I jsut got back from B101, first room forward, starboard side. The Maasdam really doesnt handle rough water very well, especially if your running 20+ knots. The frotn desk gives out free pills so my suggestion is to take them, or get the patch. I saw lots of people wearing them. I got sick the first full day, but after I started taking the pills I was fine. The voyage home was rough. I remembver I had drank heavily and was getting into bed and it felt like I was on a roller coaster. If its liek that at night, youll get a good night sleep being rocked :)

I highly suggest not to wear the "patch." Get the pills from the front desk, if you need something. My husband wore patch and had a severe reaction. We had no idea that one could be so out of it from this patch. However, I had one on and had no reaction. Of course, we removed them as soon as my husband had his reaction.--very frightening experience. I thought that he had had a stroke.

Crystal, looking forward to your review. Hope you have calm seas for your April trip. We will be sailing 11-05-05 and have a Category B Veranda, but are midship, hopefully will not get sick. Have a great cruise!

We always have a forward cabin and have never had a problem. As everyone says get the patch or take bonnine if in doubt.

We are on the 4/21 sailing of the Massdam in a forward cabin. Hopefully we won't have problems this time.

There is a roll call thread for this cruise and a meet and great planned for the second day at sea. Hope to see you. :D

Thanks everyone. Will probably do the bonnine pills just to be on the safe side.Do you take them the day before the cruise or just wait to see if you feel seasick?

We just got off the Zaandam. My sister and her family had the most foward cabin on the lowest deck and are prone to seasickness. They had NO problem. It may be the time of year, but, nothing!!!! We also noticed no rocking on shore (walk off and the ground rocks) or excesive on the ship, so we may have either been lucky with conditions or this style ship is very stable.:)

I was on the Maasdam in March and I would recommend you take bonine every day. The seas can get pretty rough leaving Norfolk. We took them every morning with breakfast and never had a problem. Have a wonderful time on the Maasdam. We had such a good time we are probably going to book her again for next March, same ship, same itinerary ... Maasdam take me away!

We also just came back from Southern Caribbean on the Maasdam in March and the sea was very rough on the way down and back. Apparently the North Atlantic is unpredictable. I would take the bonine just before getting on, though it may make you sleepy. Our daughter wore the armbands and on days when the rocking was moderate, they helped. I was told by the folks in the infirmary that they do not recommend the patches. In addition, it will help to be out of the cabin, with people, if you are really feeling bad. And don't forget to keep something in your stomach, even when you feel you won't be able to stand it (tea, broth, bread, etc). This was the advice of the person in charge at the Lido (Valeri) to me, and it worked. Other than that, relax and enjoy!! The crew on the Maasdam is great!!
