An interesing article in today's SP Times on some procedures in getting a cruise ship ready for sailing. While the article is on the Carnival Inspiration, the same things would very likely apply to any cruise ship from any port.

This article dispels the belief that no visitors allowed by TSA or the cruise lines. There were 2 wedding receptions before sailing & guests were allowed. Appears one got so enthused in the celebration, he feel asleep onboard and was put off the next port.....only on Carival......

Love it! Having worked on board it is just so accurate - right down to running to Publix to buying "essentials". There are, of course, the days that one simply cannot get off of the ship (by choice or requirement) and it makes for a long couple of weeks with no "turn around" day break. There's always hope for the next port of call, however, to sneak a few hours away . . . .
