For those of you who know the Zuiderdam well, we currently have arranged our roll call informal sailaway party for observation deck, Deck 10, port side aft at the railing. Have even arranged for a wave with Lou and his wonderful web cam.

weather forecast shows a 30 to 35% chance of rain/thunderstorms.

Could you recommend another place for the sailaway party, so that we have a viable alternative?

Thanks so much in advance.

If you want to be on the web cam you pretty much have to be outside. The sea view pool area might offer a smidge of cover (I'm trying to remember)

It it's raining and not nice, I would either use the Pinnacle Bar (a nice cosy area) or even the Crow's Nest if there is no function going on.

but you will miss the web cam. anyone in your group have the penthouse? ;) that would be perfect - big verandah, covered in most places and plenty of room inside

actually yes, some one on the roll call does have the penthouse butttttttt aren't really joiners - really nice to chat to though.

sigh.

would there be lots of people in the pinnacle bar???? If it's raining.

Hubby and I can go to our balcony and do our wave to the kids as it's on the port side - maybe I should email Lou and let him know our alternative plans - although I bet we will probably be the only ones with a Canadian flag flapping in the breeze so he could pick us out anyways. lol.

alternatively, can you take drinks onto the promenade deck and be visible from there? On the port side I mean?

If it is raining -- even the sail-away party that is normally held by the Sea View Pool will be moved to the Lido Pool and they can close the roof there.

There really isn't any other location for you to have the "wave".

Does anyone in your group have a verandah cabin on the port side? How many are in your group?

Paths are criss-crossing here.

Yes -- you can drinks on the Promenade Deck.

The Pinnacle Bar opens at 5 as a few people will stop there to have a cocktail before dining in the Pinnacle.

IMO people on the promenade show up better on the webcam because they don't have the bright sky behind them, making them semi-silhouettes. Also they're a little closer to the camera on the promenade.

We did the wave from the promenade deck. It worked out quite well.

The Pinnacle Bar probably wouldn't be open at that time - and it it isn't, it rarely has people in it (other than a couple of readers). I use it to meet tour groups all the time. It's quite nice. I don't think it would be busy at sail a way time.

Too bad about the penthouse - if you could have borrowed their veranda even just for the webcam it would have been ideal - A bit of it is exposed, but the rest is pretty protected

Thanks everyone. I think we'll say the promenade deck as our Plan B and I'll email Lou and update him.

As always, I appreciate all of the advice/help/suggestions that I have found on this forum, leading up to our trip.

I agree with John and Judy---the Promenade, especially near the glass elevator, is a perfect spot for a sail-away wave. It's low enough that you can be seen at a good angle, and there's no backlighting, so people can be recognized.

Good choice to go along with their suggestion! I would make it Plan A, if I were you.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but...

Out of our prior 11 cruises out of Florida ports, it has rained on departure day 50% of the time.

So I may be bad luck.

But I don't care, I won't melt.

The Crows nest is always a popular choice. If the weather is bad, you are indoors, and it is large enough.

I have no problem being in the rain either. But if there are thunderstorms i'll be racing you to the shelter. Lol

Bad luck or not, looking forward to meeting you in person.

We did the wave from the promenade deck. It worked out quite well.

It did...I talked it over ahead of time with Lou and he felt the lighting was good there...especially this time of year when it can start getting dark by sailaway...the Promenade Deck is well light. I'd do that again in a heartbeat...except our next two cruises are not out of FFL. :(
