We have cruised only once - HAL, SE Alaska, Inside Passage, Vancouver to Vancouver.

We are considering a Canada/New England cruise - HAL, Montreal to Boston. Since we live in Illinois and the cruise is not round trip, we are wondering about our air travel to Montreal and from Boston.

From pricing we have done online so far, it looks like airfare adds about $500 per person. Are these two one-way tickets? Are we any better off booking airfare ourselves? What has worked well for you? Is there anything we should NOT consider doing?

Any advice you can provide is appreciated :)

In our experience, we have found that booking airfare ourselves is much cheaper. But, we always have our travel agent check it before we book or we will get online and check for ourselves. We also go in to the departure port a day or two early which makes for much more leisurely travel. Be sure if you do book air travel yourself to allow plenty of time from airport to ship and ship to airport. We will be cruising Boston to Montreal in the fall, if you haven't booked already you might start to get serious. Our sailing is almost completely booked.
Happy sailing!

When we were on this cruise last year, HAL offered complimentary bus transportation from Boston to Montreal the morning of the cruise. Perhaps they are doing it again this year? That way, you could buy a round trip ticket to Boston, although you'd have to arrive in Boston at least a day prior as the bus left at about 6:00 am, if I recall correctly.

Much will depend on where you will be flying from. But I'm finding open-jaw prices now for less than $500 for BOTH tickets ... total. Try one of the major ticketing sites. Good luck.
