I just heard about a new earthquake in Sumatra—and maybe another tsunami. I feel so upset for the HAL crew. Susan.

This earthquake is in the area where the Prinsendam is currently sailing on her world cruise. Based on Grumpy's last post, I would estimate the quake to the to the east of the current position of the Prinsendam, that is, aft of her. I believe she is sailing west bound toward India.
Others here may have more comprehensive and more accurate information.
Hopefuly, since she is at sea in mid-ocean, she will be safe.

In discussing the last disaster, a friend of mine who is a captain on a freighter, said he doubted it would be a problem for the large ships. But it does make you worry. susan.

A Tsunami would not harm a ship at sea ... don't get any mental images of the "Poseidon Adventure" or anything like that. The real concern is for people ashore. I pray that there are evacuation warnings going out.

From a post on the Prinsendam thread, I understand she may have just left Chennai India about an hour ago. I hope she is at sea.....or better yet, that there is no Tsunami.

I just checked my HAL brochure and she was in India today, so she should be safe. We have good friends on board too. Let's all pray that there is no Tsunami to follow the quake.

Prayers for all who are affected, and that as said no great harm to life will come of this.

Evacuation orders have gone out but they won't know for a few hours if a tsunami will develop or not. These people definitely don't need another disaster.

I am worried sick. Our closest friends have a son traveling in Thailand. Thailand has issued a Tsunami Warning. I spoke with his Mom yesterday and she was nervous about him being there as it was. I am sooo hoping that she has not heard the news and doesn't know what is going on. I Know she had a busy day planned for today and pray she hear about this until the authorities are able to announce the threat of tsunami has passed and all are safe.

As the moments pass, the risk of Tsunami becomes less. l:50 pm eastern, so far so good.

Rev. Neal is correct from what I hear. It might make a small wave at Sea and a cruise ship would hardly notice it. However as it gets close to land, it becomes most dangerous.

I just heard 'expert' on Fox News report that a plane flying over would not see a tsunami wave and a ship traveling over it would barely see the slightest of increase in waves. It becomes visible and dangerous as it nears the coastal area at which it will strike. Until the water from the shore is sucked out into the wave, there is no sign of it.

"A small Tsunami" has been spoted near Sumatra, Idonesia. No information of it striking anywhere yet. I pray that it doesn't develop.

The number of those fatalities in the Earthquake are much higher than earlier reports indicated. This is probably affecting a number of HAL Room and DR Stewards and is probably cauing much anxiety among all of them. Let us pray for these folks tonight.
