I'm contemplating HAL for a cruise out of NYC in 2013 (like the Bermuda route the Veendam runs), but I cannnot find any offerings for HAL out of NYC at all in 2013.
I'm wondering if this is because it's too early or because HAL has pulled all ships out of NYC? I hope it's the former.

The general Calender is out thru July 2013, and no New York-Bermuda. That is all we know for now. Seems to me, I heard HAL was not going back to Bermuda after Fall 2012.

Here is a thread (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1550902&highlight=Veendam+New+York) that may help. It appears that the Veendam will be doing Canada/New England cruises in summer 2013. I see that you are Canadian, so maybe this is not good news for you;).

If Veendam is doing Canada/New England, any idea what Maasdam will be doing?

Exactly the same as Veendam ... :(
I know, boring.
I can't see why HAL has to put 2 ships out of Boston. At least have one in NY for the Canada run. But I'm sure there's some logic (yea, right ...) in Seattle.

Thank you all! I did try a search for new york city and despite being in that linked post it didn't appear (or at least on the number of pages I was cycling through).
At any rate this is disappointing. I've been trying to get my parents to go on a cruise for years and this itinerary and ship were perfect for so many reasons.
It was leaving NYC that was the biggest draw, but yea, I'm not keen on the Canada/NE itinerary, been there, live here, done that. :p
Maybe just maybe something interesting will come up in the fall which was the other time of year we were considering.

Don't lose all hope, Kate.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that HAL will return to NY eventually.
Good luck in whatever you choose! :)

I agree. HAL isn't showing cruises out of NYC for 2013 yet. There is still hope:).

Yes. Maasam will do what she has been doing for years,,,,,,, thankfully. :)

Maasdam must be making money sailing out of Boston and HAL must know they have the market or why would they send another ship here?
Veendam isn't doing it all summer, nor is Maasdam. Maasdam leaves for 35 days to do Voyage of the Vikings.

I understand that part about them making good bucks, but I personally think they should split between NY and Boston.
One ship doing weekly from Boston, the other doing weekly from NY.
It is possible ...

Yes, of course, it is possible.
I can't answer why but one question that comes to mind is are they able to get a higher per diem from the 'near Boston' crowd than they could get from the 'near Manhattan' crowd? Maybe for some reason, they can charge slightly more or maybe their expenses are slightly less though I doubt that. Boston /MassPort is definitely no bargain. We can only guess logistical reasons/financial, supply and demand......
Remember Eurodam does sail from New York to Quebec City. She does a great cruise.

It is possible ...One of the many reasons given for pulling the Noordam from its former NYC-Caribbean run was the high port costs in NYC, so it could be more profitable to use Boston instead.
