Three hours before we docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico my DH and I saw three brown booby and one red-footed booby birds picking the flying fish out of the air and eating them or diving in the water to catch them and soaring about 30 to 40 feet above the water at the front of the ship. We were heading into very strong winds at the time. Very neat!

I agree, very neat. My DH will be very interested. He spends ridiculous amounts of time watching the flying fish - but I don't think he has ever seen a bird catch one. I'll definitely report what your DH saw:).

We were on the same cruise and although we didn't see the birds catch them, the flying fish were awesome. We had never seen them before. Someone also told me they saw a whale from their balcony. Our daughter, a whale researcher in the northeast, told me to keep an eye for whales in the area of the Turks/Caicos as they are busy wintering/calving down there. Didn't see one - but did keep my eyes out for them. Look for spouts....

We have been on many cruises where whale sightings were possible, including the Mexican Riviera where we did see spouts but no actual breeches. We have come to the conclusion that actually seeing the whales breech is so rare that we should not expect it. Haven't cruised to Alaska yet - maybe that is our best hope:).

This is very cool. I'm hoping we can see this in a few weeks.

You never know what you will see on the sea (no pun intended). I have spent lots of time on the ocean fishing and have seen tons of wildlife, it is always amazing.
