View Full Version : Some differences on an RSVP charter

I thought I'd post some information of things that may be different on our RSVP charter and that may be interesting to compare against regular cruises. Since the entertainment is all arranged by RSVP, I won't include that.
Starting with food:

On Board Clothing
RSVP emphasizes a casual, comfortable atmosphere where sportswear, beachwear, and casual
resort attire is appropriate for most every occasion. You might want a sweater or light jacket for
the nighttime hours as it can get windy at sea.
There is one optional formal night on Valentine’s Day. This is your chance to dress up if you
like, but it is absolutely not required. We do suggest that no shorts or tank tops are worn in
the Manhattan Restaurant at dinner, but that’s only a request. Shorts and tank tops are not
permitted at any time in the Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind Restaurant or Canaletto.

The bookings are actually handled by the charter company AFAIC and my experience is also that you book specific cabins. Upgrades are not common, except if the charter doesn't sell out - they may start offering incentives to upgrade and free up cheaper cabins. One exception to booking specific cabins may be for those that participate in the room share option where RSVP will match singles to share a cabin, they usually have to wait for their cabin assignments.

Love, love, love the dining hours, from breakfast straight through late snack. Finally, breakfast at noon---when it's supposed to be! :D
And a reason to stay out all night and play.
I could get into something like that, excepting the requested no tank tops at dinner. There's something about hairy armpits that kills an appetite.
Thanks for posting, Peter.

Well, since dancing goes on till early morning we need those 3:00 am meals. ;)
Yes, room service is available 24 hours.
This is the first time I think that we had two brunches in the dining room.
We have also had the afternoon teas on previous cruises.

I always seem to be cruising just before or just after a RSVP cruise. They look like a blast! Maybe I can convince my gay husbands to go on one and let me tag along...
Have a GREAT cruise!

Yes indeed - Most of the ship on Gay Charters tends to sleep in late unless they have an early shore excursion or an appointment with a deck chair in the sun...
...of course we all know that Room Service is our wakeup call and that Brunch is an event in and of itself! :)
And there's usually at least one jam-packed private cocktail party in someone's suite every single afternoon.
As far as dressing for dinner, just about EVERYONE dresses for Formal Night!
(Tho there are always a few who would otherwise be expected in a Tux who decide it would be great fun to don their best Gowns, Jewels, Stilletos and Boas!) :D

There are always early risers on RSVP cruisers (myself included) and there are events scheduled before noon (that does not happen on Atlantis cruises)
I don't know when last you did an RSVP cruise but I would say less people don tuxes (or gowns) these days; some RSVP charters have no formal night (such as the Hawaii cruise in 2010). This year we are opting out. :)

Singles Dining
Traveling solo doesn’t mean you have to eat alone. Whenever you enter the Manhattan Restaurant, please let Team RSVP know you would like to be seated with other guests. Also, we’re hosting a special singles dinner, along with a designated meeting place for single guests to gather for drinks before dinner.
Door Decorations
We would love for you to decorate your stateroom door. When decorating your door, decorations should not obstruct doorways hallways nor create electrical or fire hazards. Also, please refrain from using offensive images or nudity on door decorations. Respect ship property, do not damage door surfaces. It is your responsibility to clean up your decorations at the end of your cruise.

Boytjie, I really don't care. I only posed the question in the same "fun" vein as those who were asking about dressing in gowns. I didn't mean any offense.
If this is a really tender subject for you, you might consider just posting about it in your roll call or the GLBT boards?
Just a thought...

How I wish I could crash this cruise. Some of my best conversations, best dancing, and best dinners have been with gay cruisers. I have to confess that I have crashed a couple of Friends of Dorothy gatherings, as they were previously known as. My excuse was that my name was Dorothy and I was looking for friends.:D I was never thrown out.

If he were posting in his roll call or on the GLBT boards (which BTW was a rather rude comment to begin with) he wouldn't be serving the purpose of his original post...which if you read it is to share info with everyone about what happens on the RSVP charters. I believe the OP thought that everyone might enjoy hearing about it...and generally it seems like most people are enjoying hearing about it. Perhaps if you would stop with YOUR bullying we could all continue to enjoy this thread.

No, you don't have to be gay. :) A few friends and family usually go along. No kids :D Two years ago we had a Long Island Jewish mom cruising with her son; she was doing her best to find him a husband!

We've not be on an RSVP cruise per se but we were on a cruise that had a large gay group on it. It was a ball! Certainly the first time I slow danced with another guy......his partner cut into my wife and I so I figured why not. :) We had a great time and made some great friends that we've unfortunately lost contact with in the last couple of years. I have been really enjoying your posts and have to comment on the charter differences. We went on a charter cruise (business) on Celebrity. You didn't even have a choice of juices like you do on HAL. I like to think that the service and food was reflected by what the charter chose but I will never know. To say the least, service and food was abysmal. I lost 7 pounds on that cruise (and I really didn't need to).
I have to say that your charter sounds like an absolute fantastic time, well done and really worthwhile. No wonder you go on these. so glad they are on HAL:) Be sure to let us all know when the next one is - you might have a following ;)

OK maybe a Wang Wang isn't my drink... but I had a yummy drink at the Pirate Ship bar on HMC (Myrtle Beach something?) and I was introduced to a delicious South Seas something in Crows Nest last night.
The day at HMC turned out beautiful but cooler when we sailed away. Yesterday at sea was mostly cloudy and it gas turned into a pretty warm and mostly sunny day in San Juan today.

Quite a bit of rest! Luckily we are staying with a friend in Ft. Lauderdale till Tuesday, so we can rest up and still enjoy a few more days of warm weather. :)

Um, okay, I just tried to join in the silliness, and I got my a$$ handed to me. Over and over and over.
Sometimes this board reminds me of childhood "Criss cross applesauce".:(
I got it instantly and chuckled aloud. I mean come on, people..great name for here.. "MIGHTY CRUISE QUEEN" are you ALL so young you have forgotten references to gay fun and oh well, I guess you are.
Thanks, Mighty, for the chuckle!

I wish HAL could take advantage of some of the special entertainers that do the Atlantis and RSVP cruises and move them to another ship the next day or port. They could charge extra for the expense as most of the standard shows are llong repeats for regular cruisers.
As for the Mass comment earlier, wouldn't it have been a trip for Rick Samtorum to be the guest leader for Sunday Mass?

This is really interesting! Thanks!
Does anyone have any idea what RSVP pays to charter an entire ship? WOW!

That sounds like a good itinerary. Mardi Gras, now that would be fun. Are you going to go Peter?

Booked it onboard, Josie!
Scuba in Key West and Mardi Gras with 2 days at sea before Half Mion Cay - a pretty good cruise, I think.
