Barcelona- safe location? Jazz Hotel, central?

I was looking at staying at Jazz Hotel because of the great reviews but wanted to ask.... Since its not on the placa Catalina directly is it a safe area to walk around in at night from las rambles? Is it a long walk from there to el corte ingles and las ramblas? Should I stay somewhere else that is more central/ closer to las ramblas ?
Also my group has children and jazz hotel isn't showing availability for party of 3 in a room so I am going to email them . Assuming they tell me there is no availability, where can I stay that is safe at night and central??

A few years ago we stayed at Hotel Olivia, couldn't be more central to Las Ramblas, at the top with metro, taxi and everything close buy.

I would have booked Jazz but they were full for our larger party.

We stayed across the street at Hotel Inglaterra, about 2/3 of the price of Jazz.
