I live in Stowe, Vermont and I know Lew lives in Burlington. I think we have several people from NH and somebody from Maine. Maybe we can try to have a gathering sometime before Oct 2013. :)

I don't live in New England, but will be going there on a cruise this Oct 26th on the Emerald. But Carolyn, I wanted to ask you, when did you live in San Rafael, or in Marin? I was born and raised there. I lived there until 1972 or so.

Carolyn-Joe and I were on the Ruby Flames cruise I may be wrong but I think you were also. I know I did meet Ann,Lynda and a few other ladies.
Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say "Hello" and hope we get a chance to meet at some point.:)

We have so many great summer events here in Vermont, both Stowe and Burlington. Maybe we could plan a weekend here in Vermont this summer or fall based on a special event like the Jazz festival, Oktoberfest, or one of the culinary or street fair events. I get many emails with Groupon, Jumponit, etc. that are always offering 50% off on accommodations, meals, etc. I will let everyone know if I see something good.

I forgot to tell you Carolyn that we are vegetarians, but we do eat fish when we eat out. I see Sweetwater has salmon.
We are fine with any restaurant as long as there are vegetarian items on the menu. Other than being vegetarians we are easy to please. :)

Carolyn...
I nearly missed your post over on the Royal TA roll call. Happy I scrolled up a bit this morning.
Leunigs is one of our favorites. If it's a nice day, dining al fresco would be quite enjoyable.
Another favorite is Three Tomatoes Trattoria (http://www.threetomatoestrattoria.com). They also have al fresco dining.
I guess I should have asked: Are we thinking lunch or dinner?

Yea! We will all be celebrating. My birthday is Aug 26.
Update on Leunig's. I called and spoke to Steven. Earliest availability is 7:45. Special event in Burlington that weekend? They do not take reservations for outside and he suggested coming a little early and snagging an outside table, or maybe we should do a late lunch? We should have a backup plan too in case of bad weather or unforeseen circumstances. What do you all suggest? Lew?
-Lew-
August 2nd, 2012, 08:22 AM
Update on Leunig's.The fact that they don't take reservations for outdoor seating or all inside seating leads me to believe we shouldn't have a really long wait if we just showed up before 5pm...perhaps 4:30. I checked the Seven Days (http://www.7dvt.com) website...our local arts and entertainment weekly...and I don't see any big special event that weekend other than the Champlain Valley Fair.
If it's just too busy at Leunig's, we can just walk up or down Church Street to a different restaurant. I think if we arrive earlier than 5pm or do a late lunch, we shouldn't have a problem.

It was hard to find a room in Burlington that weekend when I was booking. I tried using priceline at first but that didn't pan out. One of the hotels mentioned that parents were bringing students back to school. Freshmen aren't allowed to have cars on campus so every Freshman's parent brings him to the Univeristy. Makes for a busy weekend. I decided to stay at a bed and breakfast. Vermont has some nice ones.

Didn't we have a great evening? Eight people was a really good number. I loved your daughter Lena. When you get home send me your photos including the ones you took of the UVM campus. Enjoy Quebec and call me if you can make it to Stowe before you fly back to Fla. :)

Great food, fantastic weather, interesting conversation...and most importantly, new friends, all contributed to make our time together on the Church Street Marketplace a wonderful experience. We look forward to repeating our experience onboard the Royal.
We wish David, Lenora and Lena a wonderful week touring northern Vermont and Québec.
Jo and Norm, hope you have en enjoyable Sunday in Vermont before returning across the border.
Congratulations to all of us as we celebrated three anniversaries and one birthday last night. What a coincidence!!

Being vegetarians we can't take full advantage of all Quebec has to offfer in the culinary department but we are finding enough to keep us happy.
In Quebec City our day began with a gourmet breakfast at the Bed & Breakfast we stayed at in Levis (across the St. Lawrence from old Quebec city). We took the ferry over every day getting a grand view of a most beautiful city. If you ever need accomodations in the area I can recommend Le Plumard.
Our B&B hostess recommended a cute little restaurant called Le Lapin Saute on Petit Champlain St. in lower town old Quebec. We didn't try the rabbit but had a tasty salmon grilled on a ceder plank.
We also tried the all vegetarian resturant Le Commensal where we could chose what vegetarian dish we fancied. Lena tried poutine at one restaurant but it wasn't Montreal poutine.
We are in Montreal now. Tonight we tried an Indian resturant called Gandhi in old Montreal. I love indian food and it was delicious.
We are really having a good time sight seeing and discovering Quebec. The weather is getting a little cooler now so much more enjoyable.

Quebec City deserves a visit. You should drive up and spend a long weekend, but if you spend more time the area has a lot to offer. If you go stay at Le Plumard. Anne and Andre keep it spotlessly clean and fix the best breakfast. They also provide a free pass for the ferry.

Our family enjoyed Leunig's again Saturday evening. We celebrated my sister-in-law's birthday and she picked Leunig's as the dinner spot.
It was another beautiful evening on the Church Street Marketplace and we were fortunate to have seating for eight at the same table we all dined at last week.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone...

Inquiring minds want to know....Did you wear a white shirt????Hi Jo...
I wasn't going to mention it, but yes I did wear a white shirt and I came away unscathed!
Incidentally, the shirt and shorts I wore that night are now as good as new. As recommended I used Shout with Oxy on the shirt...soaking it overnight; I used Zout on the tan shorts. Maybe Carolyn should carry travel sizes of both with her so she can hand them out to her table mates before each meal. ;)

We will have to explain our inside joke for the rest. :)
We dropped Lena off at the airport in Montreal yesterday. She got home safely. We went on to Alexandra Bay in NY and took a boat tour in the Thousand Island region. We toured Singer and Boldt castles. What a beautiful area!!
We spent the night in Gananoque Ontario. Today we head for Ottawa. We will be just in time for the last of the light show set against the Parliament building. Should be spectacular.
Carolyn, will you be at home on the evening of Septemter 7? If you are we drive up to Stowe after we get off the Ferry near Burlington. We are taking the ferry across Lake Champlain when we return from Lake Placid.
Don't worry, you don't have to fix us supper. I am not sure of the time schedule, so I will call or email .

Carolyn…. We found your herbed seasoned salt at an outdoor market in Campo de Fiori in Roma on Saturday. It was €35,00 for 200 grams. You didn't give me any price guidelines, so that's an okay price…right?? Should be good for that price!
First sea day was very nice…got in some pool time.
We waited until morning thunderstorms cleared before heading out to explore Naples. It rained on and off all day, but we still had a good day.
Roma weather was nice until about 1pm when constant rain began. We did Roma on our own starting at Piazza Navona and ending at Trevi Fountain.
Beautiful day in Tuscany for our private tour to the Chianti region. Visited Greve in Chianti and some other hill towns as well as a winery for an over the top wine tasting and lunch.
Another great day on the French Riviera today. Visited Antibes, Nice and Saint Paul de Vence.
Right now we're battling high crosswinds until about midnight as we're heading to Barcelona. Ship is tilting a bit to port, but we're fine. Captain Tony Yeomans has asked us to limit unnecessary movement about the ship until the winds calm down.
It's supposed to be nice in Barcelona tomorrow. We're doing our own thing in one of our favorite cities.

After one of the most...no, the most...disorganized disembarkation we've ever been part of, we're home. That coupled with hurricane Sandy beginning to affect Philadelphia, our connection airport, along with major flight delays out of FLL made for a most trying day.
We're happy to be home and realize the problems we faced yesterday pale in comparison to what millions will face over the next days and weeks.
A remarkable factoid about our trip: In 29 days, where we enjoyed Munich and its most famous beverage multiple times, including nine hours in the Lowenbrau beer tent where beer steins were constantly waved and clinked in the air...and enjoyed wine and other adult beverages in ports and on aboard a ship sometimes experiencing high winds...nobody ever spilled anything on me. I have been reading the posts at 'Live from Caribbean Princess.' You have the right attitude and I am sure you will have a great time no matter the circumstances.
Realistically Caribbean Princess will not be returning to Red Hook. That area is really low and has sustained quite a bit of damage. The clean up there will take some time. As was suggested, the Manhattan terminal will be the best option, providing the services needed for disembarkation are back in place in the next day or two.
My guess is that you will be docking at Manhattan on Friday. Until then enjoy the ship. Go easy on the Vodka. :)

How about another gathering? I was thinking a Saturday or Sunday brunch at Frida's here in Stowe. Love those eggs Benedict made with crab cakes. Yum! It would also be a good time to collect and pay for my salt. Haha!

Merry Christmas to my New England friends.
Looks like it's going to be a very white one. We don't dream of such things in Florida. We sing the song but we don't really mean it. :)

Happy New Year friends... Nan and I wish you a Happy and Healthy 2013.
Thought about you on December 27th as we enjoyed dinner at Leunig's before heading over to the Flynn Theater to see the traveling troupe of West Side Story. As always, our dinner was special.
We're heading out on January 23rd to Ft. Lauderdale for 20 days on the Emerald. After we disembark on February 15th, we'll drive up the Lake Buena Vista where we'll stay at our timeshare at Walt Disney World until we fly home on March 20th. We're looking forward to getting out of the snow and cold.
Lew
PS... I have some special salt if anyone wants it...

Thank you, Jo…
We've had more than our share of snow in the past couple of weeks. The snow on our deck is close to four feet high. I started shoveling it off yesterday, but got only half way through; I plan to finish tomorrow.
Stay warm…

Well you are a city of fine food and abundant culture. But you can keep all that snow. :) No wonder you are headed to the Caribbean and Florida. Good move.
Maybe we should have a New England get together in Buena Vista when you are here. I bet there are quite a few from New England down here for the winter. Nan why don't you organize a New England get together with all from Florida invited?
The salt hasn't been claimed yet? Where is Carolyn?

I would love to come back to Montreal, but not in the winter. The coldest I have ever felt in my life was one winter day in Montreal. Even my knees were frozen :)
