Howdy to all Cupids,
CC contacted me last week and said they wanted to close our original thread from Cupids III. They gave me a couple options and starting this tread was one of them. We still can go back and see the old thread but we have a new home for discussions and stuff.
Hope everyone is having a great spring. It feels like summer here. High in the 90s for the next couple days but back into the 70s next week.
I'm trying not to drive Bettie to crazy while I'm off work. I hate strikes but I'm ready for this one. I'm calling it a "Stay-cation". Can't go anywhere. Working in the yard a little and just enjoying some time off.
Hope to see you here.

Thanks Dave...this looks great and should be a lot of fun you did a good job. Well I guess now you will get a small taste of what it will be like when you retire. Have fun on your "staycation". LOL

Ha ha, Dave, I see you've been following my crazy posts with my cousins on Facebook about tiaras on calves! LOL! This calf is a boy, so I think I will skip the tiara..wouldn't want him to get teased by the other steers.
Two days ago, I had to put the air conditioning on in my house. Today, we are back to the heater...nice rain we're getting here. It will be good for the hay crop and the grass in the pastures.

Good morning!
I was supposed to be off work today but got asked to come in just to do a delivery. That's no big deal and doesn't feel like work. I'll do that this morning and then I really am off until Sunday. I normally work on Friday nights but for some reason they gave me this Friday off and since my other days off are usually Thursday and Saturday I now have 3 days off. I feel like I'm on vacation. :D
Dave - I hope the strike doesn't last too long but enjoy the time off.
I still haven't heard from Laura. :(
Have a great day.

So much for my 3 day weekend. Not only did I go in to do the delivery today but now I'm working lunch tomorrow. One of my co-workers got a surprise visit from her daughter who moved to San Diego last summer so she's wants to take tomorrow off. I can certainly understand that so I didn't have the heart to say no. I could use the money anyway. After all, I have a cruise to save up for. :D

Took a bull buying trip yesterday. Our bull guy is only about 90 miles from us. We had lunch at our favorite Italian restaurant, and brought home pizza for dinner! Got 5 nice bulls picked out. We'll go back and get them in June.
The graft cow hopped over a cattle guard to get back in with a group of cows. We were going to put her in there anyway, but I guess we weren't fast enough for her! What I can't figure out is how the heck she got her calf over there...he must have crawled through the fence I guess. I don't see how he could have jumped the cattle guard. But whatever...they are in the field together, happy as a coupla clams! :D

Hi everyone...boy we are having wonderful weather today and did some work in the yard...then had a meeting and now free for the remainder of the week-end.
Sue...how old are the little bulls when you buy them? Are they too young to bring home now?
Lisa, Phil and Kara went to the SPCA today looking at horses...about 12 were rescued a couple of months ago here because they were being neglected  and I think they are now ready for adoption. Not sure they will buy one but they wanted to have a look in case they saw one they like so I am eager to hear all about it.
We saw War Horse last night on Directv and really enjoyed that...we love to watch the horse movies. We have two movie tickets that we got for our anniversary last March and think we will use them for the new Johnny Depp movie "Dark Shadows"...the previews look pretty good. And I remember when it was a soap opera...loved it...it was kind of a spoof on soaps and pretty funny.
Dave...are you still on strike?
Hope you are all having a really nice week-end. :]

The bulls are yearlings ~ 1 year old. We don't bring them home yet, because they have to be semen tested first to make sure they are able to breed. We have never had a bull we picked out "fail" the tests, but it does happen occasionally. They also do blood tests to make sure they don't have a disease called trichomoniasis, which causes cows to abort their calves and/or be infertile. Bulls carry the disease and pass it on to the cows. If you get that disease in your herd, it is devastating...cattle cannot be sold if they have it, they must be destroyed. You can't send them to an auction. It is highly contagious. Luckily, we've never had any in our herd.

Char - Your horse story reminded me of something that happened here just a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if it made national news or not but it could have. There was a huge stable fire that killed 18 horses. It was so sad to hear about. They weren't neglected or anything like that. It was just a tragic accident. The people there got some of the horses out but the fire moved so fast there wasn't time to get them all. :(

Sue -I suppose that bulls, just like humans, could be shooting blanks. That's scary about diseases that can be devastating. I'll bet you weren't too thrilled hear about that case of mad cow disease in Northern California last week.
I had a strange experience last night. Those of you who've known me a long time know that before I worked at the OG I worked at Smokey Bones but it closed. A new restaurant has finally opened in the Smokey Bones building so we went there for dinner. Of course it has been totally remodeled but it still felt strangely familiar. I think that was because the bathrooms and the kitchen were still in the same place. I glanced into the kitchen and it even looked pretty much the same and even though the bathroom had been redecorated with all new stalls, tile, sinks etc., it still felt like the same bathroom. LOL. It was just really weird being back there after 5 years.
Have a great day. :)

Heidi...I did see that on the news it was heartbreaking. Kara didn't buy a horse but is considering one and will go back to "halter" check it tomorrow I believe. She really likes the horse and said it is a male about 4-6 years old and quite pretty. She really likes working with her horses and does a lot of training with them and someday wants to open a stable that caters to handicapped children. She worked at one when she was in High School for extra credit and loved it.

Hi Dot,
We were down in Galveston and watched you sail away, twice.
It looked like they took 2 off in ambulances. Did they tell you what happened?
Miss seeing you at Dillard's. Dale retired the end of March and she's still trying to get into retired mode.

Hi everyone!
Heidi, I hope we hear some news soon.
Dot, How fun to just have have taken a cruise. When you have time tell us all about it.
Sue, I love hearing your "cow" stories. I also thought of you when the mad cow disease made national news.
Dave, I hope the strike comes to an end soon. Hopefully the temperatures will cool off some.
Char, I hope we will all be able to make this cruise together also, whether it is official or not.
Ed, Tell Dale to enjoy her retirement.

Hey Ed. Yes, my second cruise on the Magic, and both had to come back to Galveston! One of the men in our FB forum is a medic and happened to be standing there at the time and he helped this lady until the ship took over. She fell across a lounge chair at the pool and broke her shoulder, but they also said she must have had a heart attack. And, I believe it was a heart attack for the second person also.
I sure don't miss being at Dillards! They screwed me out of my life time discount, so don't guess I will be shopping with them again! LOL Things are finally settling down a little for me. Go to probate May 10th, so after that nothing hanging over my head. Tell Dale I said hello and when she has some free time, we should get together!

Another calf rescue yesterday. Little guy has a mom, but her bag is huge and he couldn't get ahold of the tits to suck. We got them in and put her in the squeeze chute so Dave could milk her out and get the tits unclogged and let the calf suck. The sides come off the bottom 1/3 of the chute, so the calf can get in there and suck. He really went to town once he got ahold! He will be fine now. She really loves him. We'll keep them in the barn lot for a few days and keep an eye on them. I posted pics on Facebook.
Kathy ~ yes, every time there is a mad cow story, it's not good for the cattle industry. And it's always a damn dairy cow. The public doesn't understand that there is a vast difference between beef cattle and dairy cattle and how they are handled and so forth. Anyhoo.
Brian is in Seattle today, he is starting an internship with State Farm and has orientation all week. Seems odd to call it "internship" since he's been working for an agent for over a year, but now he'll be studying and getting the rest of his licensing done in order to be an agent with his own agency. He'll have to go back to Seattle for 2 weeks in a couple of months, and then 2 more times he'll be there for 2 weeks. He's very excited, and it's a nice raise in salary.
Staci got a full time job last week too. She is Assistant Director of a learning center called The Growing Tree. She won't be working with the kids, but is in an administrative position. She really loves it so far.

Hi Everyone...
Sue...those calf's sure do keep you busy...I feel sorry for both the cow and calf...cow hurts and calf is hungry.
Dot...How do you like retirement? More time to cruise and play with that beautiful granddaughter. :D
Lisa and Phil didn't buy the horse...none of them were ready still need a little more care and medical attention...I hope they threw the book at the guy who is responsible for their neglect. Kara went to halter check the one horse but evidently the person she spoke with the day before didn't know what he was talking about because the horses are not ready for adoption. However, they did come home with a beautiful lab/greyhound mix female 8 month old dog...she is a golden and white color and beautiful and I can't believe how mellow she is for being so young and has fit in nicely with the family of 2 cats and 2 horses...and loves Jeep rides which makes Phil really happy...LOL
Hope everyone is having a good start to the week...:)

No word from Laura yet. I really thought today would be the day since I know for sure now that she is aware of our plans and knows that Johna has given me prices. Two other groups who started their "interest" threads AFTER ours have gotten approval so I expect we should get it any day now.
We moved Staci home from school today. Shortly after we got home she checked her email and found out that the University offered her a job and she has to be back in a week. She can't even move into her new apartment until June 18th. She's just going to have to find someone she can stay with for a month. I was hoping to have her home longer. :(
I hope everyone has a good Mother's Day. :)

It was late last night and I was tired so I didn't want to type that much but I really want to tell you about the new apartment complex that Staci will be moving into. It is still being built and is a great location. It's directly across the street from the sorority house she just moved out of. It's too bad it isn't ready because we could have just carried her stuff across the street instead of bring it back home. Oh well, not much we can do about that. We tried to get in to see her apartment but it was locked (they had been unlocked until recently). She has been in it though and the apartment itself is done. It even has most of the furniture. The complex will even have an outdoor pool and hot tub but it's the public area and some apartments that aren't done yet. Anyway, her apartment is going to be very nice but still just a standard 3 bedroom. It's actually the least expensive floor plan in the complex. Even though we couldn't get into her apartment the tile guys were working on the biggest (and most expensive) one in the complex and they let us go in there. OMG! This place was unbelievable. It's a 2 level unit and the upstairs is probably a lot like Staci's apartment but the basement has a huge living room, wet bar with full size refrigerator and dishwasher, pool table, poker table, HOT TUB ROOM AND SAUNA ROOM!!!!!:eek::eek: It was just so unfreakin' believable. I don't know who can even afford that kind of place. It has been rented though. Staci says she and her friends definitely want to get to know the guys who are renting it. She says they are going to bake them cookies or something and bring them to them. LOL. Actually, we don't know if it's guys or girls moving in there but Staci thinks it would most likely be guys because of having a pool table and poker table in there. What's really a shame is, that apartment will probably be trashed after one year. I have seen what college guys can do to apartments.

Heidi ~ happy Staci got a job, and sorry she will move away from you again. :p Her apartment sounds great! How lucky she found that. Brian lived in a brand new apartment complex his senior year of college. He and his roomie kept their apartment very clean and it was the same when they moved out as when they moved in. They had neighbors (this was also campus housing...right across the street from campus) that trashed their apartment though, and left a mess even outside the apartment. I really don't know why anyone would want to be a landlord in a college town.
