my wife recently bought me a book named 1001 places to visit before you die--one of the places was the pork pit in montego bay and that was perfect because i was looking forward to our 3/21/05 cruise that included a stop in jamaica--------really wasnt looking for anything fancy just the opportunity to taste some "real" local fare--------totally disapointed in what they had to offer-thought the chicken and pork was overcooked and dried out from the grilling--dont even want to think when they last cleaned the cutting board and dont forget the prices on the menu are jamacian $$$$$---went to margaretville just up the road and the drinks and mouth squirts made me forget all about lunch

Sorry you had that experience. We were in Montego Bay on the Caribbean Princess last July with a family group and went on a private tour to Mayfield Falls. We asked our guide to stop at the Pork Pit for lunch and had really great food, both the pork and the chicken. Of course, our guide stood by us while ordering and also watched while they cooked the food and gave us our order. I thought that was very nice of him, but maybe there was a reason! Shouldn't have to have a private guide oversee what you get for lunch...but then I'd heard you shouldn't tour Montego Bay or step foot off the ship without a guide.

Anyway, glad you got to Margaritaville and had a good experience there. You might want to post under Ports of Call, I know that's where I got a lot of good info about Jamaica (and our guide).

Sounds like their cooking is as bad as their driving

We went to Montego Bay for a week about twenty years ago and the Pork Pit was one of our favorite places! There were four of us and we all loved it. We didn't have guide or anything either. I'm sorry you didn't like it.
