I just saw this posted on another website, so I apologize if this is old news here. Apparently the Grandeur hit the pier while trying to dock in high winds. (You don't have to register for the website, just scroll down.)

Wow ... that's gotta hurt!
I hope they're covered for uninsured motorist. :) Or, would this not be covered under "Acts of God." ????

Read about the windy conditions. Many of the posts also appeared to refer to Costa Maya as a lousy port. Whatever the case, that's bad luck for a lot of people, both now and over the next few weeks, I imagine.

Why does all the crazy stuff happen just before I leave? Not that it is going to stop me from going, or worry me, but I just hope something doesn't happen in threes this time.

That is some hole. Don't think it will be repaired very quickly.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I hope Royal can repair the ship quickly. I can't imagine planning a trip for 6 months to a year and then have to cancel because the ship has a gigantic hole in it.

RCCL website says they'll patch her up and bring her back to New Orleans this weekend and depart on the next sailing next monday with a 5 day itinerary.

I also went to the RCI website and read what they had posted. I am not too sure that I would want to sail on a ship with a patch.
Hope everyone is enjoying Costa Maya as they are there until Saturday.

Krazy Kruisers (sp)
There are many passenger ships out there with patches. Pranging a dock is not that unusual.
The late great Oriana had a large patch on the bow, result of a collision with the US Navy Kearsarge some years back.
Although we think of ship's hull steel being super-strong, it is fairly easy to puncture and tear it.

LOL ... that's almost precisely what my mother used to say about that clause in most Insurance Policies. She was an Agent for a major Insurance firm and she used to laugh about that phrase, but wonder to whom one could appeal it. :)

Hey, Orcrone ... long time no "see."
No future cruises planned?
Why don't you join us on the "Voyage of the Spammed" to Hawaii in 06?

I was reading the RCCL boards yesterday and there was to be a wedding on it on Saturday after sailing. The poor bride was frantic. It's bad enough for the pax on the ship now and for the pax on the shorten cruise but if you had planned your wedding on the ship and the sailing is delayed, that's a tough one.

Rev. Neal,
Speaking of the Vatican......I read your Bio. Most impressive. If I were a Cardinal and you a Catholic I would have had you on my short list for Pope. :)

JenFromDallas (?) was supposed to have gotten married on the ship. She has been frantic the last couple of days. RCI is working on her wedding. From what I gather she will be getting married on Sunday instead of Saturday and not on the ship. But she will still be going on the cruise.
