Our brochure says that our telephone has an internet access port. Has anyone used this in cabin service? If so, how do the online price rates compare to those at the internet cafe. Are the rates the same? Does Oceania have lap tops that you can use or do they provide the software to be used on your own laptop? We'll be bringing our laptop, but were concerned about software and interface.
We start our priliminary packing this weekend and fly to London arriving June 12. INSIGNIA HERE WE COME!
This is our first Oceania cruise and we really appreciate all of the great advice and information we have gotten from this board.

I was excited about the internet access in the suites UNTIL I found out it cost $25 a day, PLUS 95 cents per minute. I left my laptop at home and although there are some packages you can buy for various amounts of minutes, it is still very expensive. The standard cost per minute is 95 cents in the internet area (There are also two computers in the Library)
My suggestion is to write your emails in "word" then log on, cut and paste your email and hit send.
Actually when you are in port find an internet cafe. They are everwhere, and are very cheap.
Depending on the country, you can use the internet at a cafe for about $3-4 per HOUR!
Leave your laptop at home.

Also, access from your cabin is via dial-up, not an Ethernet connection.
When I was on the REGATTA last fall, they were i n the process of installing in-room pay-per-view movies with e-mail access using a wireless keyboard. I don't know if it's operational yet, and I suspect the cost is high if it is (probably a flat rate per message using a ship-assigned account).
Silversea and, I think, RSSC charge for actual download/upload time only when you're on the PCs in the computer center. (In other words, you don't pay when you're composing a message, but only when you're downloading mail or hitting "send.") It would be nice if Oceania had something similar, but with Oceania charging lower fares than the luxury lines, it probably can't afford to just break even on the Oceania@Sea concession (which had two full-time staff members on board during my cruise).

If you use the Oceania@sea ( email address ) to write you long emails you are not charged for online time. It is the flat $2.00 fee ( for as long as it takes).
The 95 cents gets pretty expensive as it starts as soon as you start ( even before you seem to be online with say your aol account.
And you get charged even if you have a problem as I did with aol one day..cost about 12 bucks not to get through...The 95 cents is a bit higher than Crystal and Radisson but not mush.

The $25 in-cabin fee is a one-time set-up charge. Once your account is established, you're charged at the usual 95 cents per minute rate.
You CAN buy a package deal of 100 or 200 minutes, with additional minutes discounted proportionately. We ended up using about 10 minutes a day just to check our emails, to print off the daily weather forecasts (the on-screen television forecast in our cabins was notoriously unreliable), and to do additional research on upcoming ports. We quickly burned through our 100 minutes in no time.

Dr Wong:
Did you have on-screen television weather forecast? We did not see any on our Barcelona to Venice April 10-24 cruise on the Regatta. Possibly we didn't know where to look for it, which channel was it on? Thank you.
