Sorry for the double post but my real question is where can you iron your clothes on the Zuiderdam? I think I've read that they don't have any laundry facilities.

You will need to send you clothes out to be pressed. HAL's Vista Class ships do not have self service laundry or ironing facilities.

We have a travel iron and used the small counter in the dressing area or the space between the double sinks. HAL advertises that laundry submitted before 0900 will be back by 1700, but it took our items 24 hours or more to show up.
Personally, I am glad we did not rely on HAL to do the laundry for us. If we had we would have left the ship without some of our clothing.

Ironing in the cabin is prohibited on all HAL ships (as well as most others) because it's an extreme fire hazard.

I agree, almost all cruiselines, including HAL, prohibits an iron or any such on their ships. TRex, you may or may not be a pinhead, but there are many who would forget the iron was on and endanger all passengers onboard. If you need to have something pressed, please use HAL's pressing service, or bring a travel steamer.

It is a fire hazard if you are a pinhead with the iron.
What are you? The hall monitor?
Take a pill and get over it.
Wow, pretty strong response...no need to get ugly when he's merely stating the rules. Safety is primary in my mind, I'd rather HAL had the rule than not.

alternatively, i have a neat little gadget from brookstone that's a combination hair dryer / travel iron... the latter doesn't really look that much like an iron so it can slip-by even on inspection (which it has in the past). doesn't do quite as good a job as a regular iron, but it will get out light wrinkles better than my travel steamer (which has stayed at home many years now).

I just discovered Downy Wrinkle Release and have tried it on a few items. I works quite well. It's just a spray and you smooth the wrinkles right out. Don't know if I would use it on all fabrics. I've tried it on linen and cotton at this point.
I found a reference to it on Cruise Mates in their practical advise section. I've found it locally at Wal-mart and Albertson's.

Downy Wrinkle Release works very well. I always take it with me and use it on the first evening if needed. After that I send anything needing pressing to the laundry, but DWR will do the job for you in an emergency. :)

Does anyone know approximately how much pressing services are on the Zuiderdam?
