Is the bread pudding on the Westerdam good? Where can you find it and what kinds are available? Thanks for the help!

I have had the bread pudding on both the Ryndam and the Maasdam (the only two dam ships I've been on), but I'm sure they also serve it on all line ships. They serve it in the Lido at lunch and also in the main dining room at lunch - with the custard sauce. I've had the regular bread pudding and one unforgettable time, they had chocolate bread pudding on the Ryndam. They will give you the recipe if you want.

Yum. :D

The bread pudding on the Westerdam was excellent, as usual. They only had the regular bread pudding and it was located in the coffee, tea and juice area.:D

On the Oosterdam, the bread pudding was located in the WOK (oriental) area.

When we were on the Westerdam in Dec. it was located by the desserts/ice cream bar. If you can't find it, ask one of the stewards. I have never seen anything but the plain bread pudding and it's delicious.

When we were on the Westerdam in January it was located on the starboard side in the ice tea, coffee, water area - down by the deli sandwhich area and across from the salad bar area.

Only a couple of times on one of the other 'dam' ships was the custard sauce very runny.

We have had the chocolate bread pussing with regular custard sauce and regular bread pussing with chocolate custard sauce on both the Ryndam and the Statendam.

In a dissenting opinion, I think that HAL bread pudding is awful, a pale imitation of what it should be.

Bread pudding was developed centuries ago as a way to use up stale bread before it got moldy and had to be thrown away. (Waste not, want not!) In a true bread pudding stale bread several days old is used and the bread pieces in the pudding are firm and substantial. In HAL's bread pudding the bread is fresh, more like sponge cake and is soft and squishy in the pudding. Yuk! Also, bread pudding should be flavored with vanilla, have plenty of cinnamon, a sprinkling of nutmeg on top and lots of raisins. The HAL cooks gently waft a little cinnamon in the vacinity of the pudding, use no nutmeg and are very stingy with the raisins. The sauce should be thick and very lemony. The only things HAL does right is make it sweet and serve the imitation bread pudding warm.

I have bread pudding on the Volendam. It serves with vanilla sauce. Since it is around for centuries, I don't know what's the original or who can claim to be the "real McCoy". It is a bit soft, but still taste very good.

I'll add my name to the list of those who think HAL's Bread Pudding is delicious. I hardly eat desserts anymore but always treat myself to a small serving at least a few times at lunch during each cruise.

Krazy Kruizers-Your post makes me dislike the bread pudding more than I already do.
I've never heard the word 'pussing' used in connection with sauces.

I don't know if I will ever be able to eat bread pudding again, without thinking of PUSSING. After thinking about this, maybe I will not be able to eat breading pudding at any time in the near future. :D
